Have to agree with Dixon Cheats and throw in Wandin East and Emeralds lower grades in the late 80s.
Having watched a lot valley cricket over the years i would say generally not only has the cricket standard dropped a fair way but the way the game is played has degenerated and most sides have at least 2 loud mouths generally it is blokes who 20 years ago wouldnt have got a look in at 1s cricket who rate themselves a bit highly who do a lot of the sledging(if thats what you want to call it though 99% of it is neither clever or funny)
I would love to have seen some of these so called opening bowlers who like to sledge bowling to Pendleton,J.Smith,Coldstream top 8 would have been short spells.
And as for the batting if Mark Rhodes was still playing he would average 60 to 70 wickets a year bowling to mostly no better than good 2nds bats

This is the same for all three leagues in the local area though (YVCA, FTGDCA & RDCA) with a greater focus on develpoment programs gifted juniors get picked up a lot more regularly than previous generations. While the batting is as strong as its ever been in the ftgdca, the bowling has dropped away dramtically, long gone are the days of grace, cross and steve lee. Unfourtantly unless you get the juniors coming back from down the line this will inevtiable make the leagues weaker than their "hay day".
Not sure what the cross over between the football club and the cricket club at upwey but they are not short of a dollar on the cricket side.

Leaning toward Seville just because their bowling lineup of Ishy, Troyhan, Tilney ect is miles ahead of the rest. Having said that if Troyhan and Seinor dont make runs they strugle to get to tripple figures so a big innings from Jones and some tight bowling Mt Ev could knock them off. Im tipping seville in a low scoring game.
We all know warby have some experienced players with good records in finals, one guy in particular... I reckon they will beat silvan.

I think that it will be a repeat of last year's Grand Final with Seville & Warby playing off. As for one team praying for rain i personally dont think it is that obvious. At first glance you would say Silvan cause in the last two matches against Warby they were bowled out for under 70. They finished higher on the ladder than Warby so rain means they go through.
However valleyvibe made a good point in Seville's batting can be exposed. If Kane Jones for Mt Evelyn gets going he could take the game away from Seville. Mt Eve might only need to score between 150 to 200 to progress.

Its fairly obvious that its Silvan considering they ended up second by default in fact shouldnt have even made the four. Played Coldstream twice and never played Seville. Woori played Seville twice and Coldstream once and just missed out.

Silvan should not have made the four but finished 2nd and Warby are no good and making the finals is an absolute joke. So I guess the grand final is this week between Seville & Mt Evelyn. Who would be your top 4 in order Finger? Who do you think will win the flag this year?

Just saying that refusing to play against Seville has paid dividends for Silvan. There was only half a game between 2nd and fifth. How a A grade game can not be played yet all other teams get a game in is a joke. A grade has to be a priority. Even Silvan themselves know there lucky to be in there. As for Warburton whod have tipped that Bumble would come back and theyed pick up another A grade cricketer mid year.
I dont think Silvan avoided Seville, not our fault the ground was unplayable and the umpire wasnt willing to let the game go ahead, is it expected that a bag of cement to dry an A grade ground is exceptable.
They didnt want to play the first week as they had players unavailable when the ground was in far better condition. Has been a even comp all year but we think we deserve Second, but have to step up and improve against a very good side in Warby. Everyone under rates us and we hope to prove you all wrong. 4 good sides and the winners will have to earn there spots in the GF.

Not sure if your serious. Seville were adament that the ground was right to be played on. In fact Silvan had sent players back to play B grade before the game was actually called off There was no way Silvan ever came to play that day. As for deserving to finish second dont let the gimmie outright versus Coldstream fool you Silvan were putrid after Christmas when some sort of fluency got into the season.Anyway yous dont rate Warby is the word coming out of Silvan and think its a given youll be in the GF the next week.

Please, Silvan were at no stage making any attempt to play that day. Not one other game was called off that day due to ground conditions. The fact you had the chance to send players back proves you werent that serious about playing as the seconds obviously started short. Fact is if Woori, Yarra Junction or Warby had your draw theyed be second if not top.

I am assuming you were there as i was. called off by the umpire not us, teams cant call games off. not our job to help fix the ground, home teams job. seconds were short when 3 players did show up. Woori and junction we beat. We offered to move our seconds and we could play at our ground as it was and has been all year in great condition.

Only that your captain and players were adament the ground wasnt safe. Seville were very happy with the ground and they have more to lose than Silvan. What is the umpire to do considering one of your players is a league executive. Amazing that you apparently feared no team but jumped at the chance at a draw against Seville.
Why did Seville avoid us the week before in better conditions.
The ground was worse than the first week when they didnt want to play. We are to blame for them having ne of the worst grounds in the comp. We have a league exec and they had one there to, ours said nothing, theres didnt shut up. so i am sure that wasnt the reason.

Is that why most of your players sat in the rooms and wouldnt come out to the middle including the league exec? ( Thanks for the PM) Sevilles captain was furious which is odd considering they werent top as you pointed out.

Yeah apparently he's back at Mt Ev. Maybe they could approach Hoddles Creeks coach those 60 odd runs for the year would come in handy money well spent.

Despite all the bickering that goes on at senior level, am happy to say that the main GF that counted was played out at Yarra Junction this weekend with Seville defeating Warburton in the u/12's.
Our boys have had a great season winning all 3 forms of comp this year - the 20/20 prior to Christmas, the Super 8's a fortnight ago and now the big one. In fact, have only had one loss which as it turns out, was to Warby about a month ago.
Warby are a classy outfit as well - the guys improving dramatically from last season and getting so close this time round. It was great to see the future youth from both teams conducting themselves in such a high sportsmanlike manner.
Now, if only the adults were all the same!!!
