If the finals were this week we would be playing Fremantle in an elimination final. This could be a real possibility.

I'd back our boys to win it but anything could happen on the day and given our form and recent struggle to beat Fremantle it could be tough.

Thoughts?

We've won 9 straight vs them and have not lost since 2014. Not sure about struggling to beat Freo?

Edit: To answer your question, I think we'd go into that game overwhelming favourites.

Last game we kicked 5 goals to 1 in the first quarter.

After that they dominated possession without scoring.

Lucky to win by13 so yeah...struggled.

Is this even a thing? I'm not sure any argument can be made for Freo being a chance at winning?

They have no forward line and a sole B grade ruckman.

West Coast played the worst game of the season so far and still beat them by 13 points.

This scenario highlights why we must finish top 4. Looking at Freo's draw they will probably finish with 11-12 wins, which puts them right in the mix for 8th. If we finish 5th and beat them wk1, then you can almost certainly rule us out of winning wk2.

If we finish 4th as the ladder stands, we would probably lose to geelong in wk1 at Kardinya. I'd back us to win through to a prelim, hopefully against Pies, which we'd be odds on to win.

If we can't finish second then the ideal is we finish third with Pies finishing second.

If you'd paid close attention to the possibility of a derby final since the Dockers joined the comp, you'd know that one of the two teams will lose a game where they go in favourites or win a game where they go in underdogs to avoid playing a derby final. Sydney and GWS can't sneeze without having a "Battle of the Bridge" final, but the stars just won't line up for us or the Dockers.

So until this actually happens I'm going to act like it physically can't.

I might be wrong, but i think Geelong is contracted to play finals at the MCG?
If so, I'd love to face them week 1 of finals more so than Pies or Tigers.

I think you would have to go on recent form.
Now just who has won the last 8 Derby's?

11-12 wins, gee, that's optimistic I would have thought. What are they on now? 5 and 5? I think they'll be lucky to win another 3-4.

They've got Pie's at the G, Geelong, Hawks away, Melbourne away, Saint's away, Port away, Eagles again. They'll be lucky to win an away game, they could snag one at home against sydney and maybe one against Melbourne away (but I doubt that too).

All without Taberner...

The only team Geelong could possibly play at GMHBA is GWS because of their low support. I think we will only play there if there is 4 VIC finals in week 1 and even then it should be played at Marvel.

Don't know why anybody else other than the Perth media or Freo fans would even think of this scenario again.
Probably the last time it was brought up was when both teams were finals contenders.
I'd back us to win either way, especially if we have home ground advantage, but if Freo are genuinely the better team, obviously it would be a bit of a challenge.

is this a troll

we are the current premiers and they are a rabble with a history of failure

lol

I'm not trolling I'm asking a legitimate question and starting discussion about something that could happen.

You can rabble on about premiers and histories blah blah but they don't win games of football if you have a scenario like this.

Forgive me for being concerned about not only our form but a potential game in which we lose home ground advantage.

I didn't mean to sound like I was having a go at you
Sure anything is possible..I was more having a dig at freo. For me they have done zip to deserve any consideration

Adelaide and Port have played a few Showdown finals ....anything can happen it's a different game but if we finish fifth we lose our home ground advantage and that would be inconvenient , if we lost it means we get a better pick in the draft and first dibs on Tim Kelly ...lose/win ( very Fremantle thing to say , sorry ) .
