In the early eighties there was a power failure during a game at the Western Oval. This meant that the PA system wasnt working and the timekeepers couldnt sound the siren at 3/4 time. They resorted to ringing an old bell from the Gent stand trying in vain to let the umpire know that time was up.
The question is: Who was the opposition coach who ran onto the ground and interupted a very suprised looking umpire(Kevin Smith I think) in the act of bouncing the ball? He then put his arm around him and pointed up to the bell sounding from the Gent stand.
It was pretty funny.
