Delisted Logan Austin

Returning to Sandy backline Austin had 17 disposals and 4 marks in a great victory over Port Melbourne.

Zero tackles and 2 rebound 50s and 2 inside 50s seems to indicate a similar type of game what we're used to from Loges. With both Brown and Joyce in the firsts it seems his role there was more likely covered by Carlisle.

Lots of support for a return to the firsts particularly for his kicking skills. Still developing his defensive game.

From Hamill's VFL review:

"Logan was one of our best. Some of his positioning on Jordan Lisle, who’s their best forward, was really good, and he probably played one of his better games that I’ve seen him play. He used his man as a starting point and then went to work, and he’s developing really well. The form that he’s in now after that game will hold him in good stead."

Logan Austin was one of the Zebras’ best on the weekend, keeping Port Melbourne’s Jordan Lisle goalless in an impressive defensive showing.

At 195cm, Austin comes into the team for the injured Nathan Brown, and the ex-Port Adelaide defender will be eager to prove his mettle against his old side.

Go Saints

Logan Austin has played just five games for the Saints since arriving from Port Adelaide last year, but the athletic defender has the ability to match it with both talls and smalls.

The Canberra product has been suffering from groin soreness for the last fortnight, and he’ll need to get through Thursday’s main session unscathed to be in the frame for selection.

Go Saints

After 5 weeks out with a groin injury Austin resurfaced for Sandy and played a solid game, presumably across half-back.

17 disposals, 5 marks and 3 rebounds. Reported as playing "strong" in the contest.

Given Brown is likely to be suspended, the only thing stopping a recall at the Saints might be a huge game from Hugh as also reported.

Ex-Port Adelaide defender Logan Austin also comes back into the side after a brief stint spent on the sidelines nursing a niggling groin strain.

After a solid outing for the Zebras, Austin’s 194cm and aerial ability should help negate the influence of Hawthorn’s tall forwards as the Saints look to sure up their relatively undersized backline.

Go Saints

Logan Austin rounded off a solid year with a game spent on the Roo forwards including Ben Brown, accumulating 92 fantasy points.

18 disposals @89%, 8 marks (one an intercept), 5 intercepts, 5 CPs, 388 metres gained.

On the downside - only 6 pressure points and one tackle. Not quick chasing guys on the lead but got a spoil or two in I reckon.

Overall he showed promise for a young guy in his first year with us. Remains to be seen if he can become a key position player but as a rebounding third tall he's on the edge of our best 22.

Logan Austin will have shoulder surgery this week, ruling him out for an extended period of time.
The key defender dislocated his left should in an incident at training late last week, and will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair the joint.
General Manager of Football Simon Lethlean said it was a disappointing result for the 23-year-old.
“It’s a frustrating outcome for Logan after doing a lot of work to get himself fit after a groin issue in the pre-season,” he said.
“But surgery is best option to repair the damage to the joint and ultimately set him up for the rest of his career.”

Logan Austin endured a frustrating 2019.
First it was a groin injury that curtailed his pre-season, then a shoulder injury sustained in a training mishap that ruled him out for the entire year.
The former Port Adelaide defender was prominent in his seven matches for the Saints in 2018, averaging 20 disposals, eight marks and four rebound-50s per game.
One of his side’s biggest bodies and one of the strongest in the contest, Austin’s inclusion in 2020 will add another layer to St Kilda’s budding backline.

Logan Austin is similarly set for a full return to pre-season training after missing the entire year following a left shoulder reconstruction.
The robust defender is now 20 weeks post-surgery and like Gresham, would have been in the selection equation had the Saints’ 2019 journey continued into finals.
