Wonder what came first.

Super League or that S in the original logo.

Reminds me of SuperFooty.

Super League came first. Originally the logo was just "SUPER LEAGUE" over a slanted football as per below from https://search.ipaustralia.gov.au/trademarks/search/view/658055?q=SUPER+LEAGUE:

Just stumbled on a NHL Logo History video and came across this.
Predators, a mostly yellow and navy blue colour scheme, uses ochre in their logo in 1999.
West Coast Eagles, a team with a yellow and navy blue colour scheme redesigns their logo one year later also includes ochre in their rebrand.
Both are fairly similar logos, heads of animals looking eastward. Coincidence, I think not.

I actually don't mind the new Nissan logo. Though overall I still prefer their red & blue logos from the 90's.
