Might be a slight overreaction but seems like easy money for some of these firms managing the rebrands/updates. Just take the existing logo that has a bit of character and straighten it up and replace any fonts with a generic font that is used in all other rebrands/updates.

Out of pure curiosity, I searched trademarks owned by Channel Seven. On this I uncovered a few rejected logos.

Here are some rejected logos for what would eventually become 7Mate

And for 7Two

Meanwhile I saw some filed trademarks that could be interesting:
(These were filed last year btw)
7Now, 7Red, 7RedIQ, 7Red Engine, 7Shop, 7Connect and 7Fresh.
What could these be? Upcoming MultiChannels? Upcoming Services? Or just names that have since been rejected?

The final 7Mate logo isnt perfect but they certainly made the right call when compared to these options

I'm pretty sure that 7 Red Engine is CH7's internal production company for TVC.

I've tried searching but can't find much, but I distinctly remember during the 2000's (Olympic coverage) that Channel 7 actually had multiple digital channels. 7 Red, 7 Blue, 7 Gold, 7 Green. Was super early technology and we had a family member who was an early adopter to digital TV and this has been burned into the back of my mind for the last 20 years
