I was wondering your thoughts about the younger players in our side.

Personally I was impressed with...
Cloke
Richards
Maxwell
Swan (he's played senior footy before but not much)
King

What are your thoughts?

the younger players is the only good thing from that horrible game

Cam. Cloke showed me he is going to be a good player, always goes for the football and always tries and does the little things that always shows he knows how to play, personally i like him over Jason.

Richards, was disapointing i was expecting more from him, but then again he was rucking agaisnt a giant of a kid in sandilands, hopefully will be better with more game time. next year its either perform or be traded he's been at the club a long time now

Swan is a great player and would be suited to the foward pocket and play a role like Medhurst does, a real footballer. i liked him and was impressive

our number 1 pick last year Bo Nixon showed me why we picked him up, i was impressed, he tries hard and has some real skills, needs to build up a bit but really looked comfortable out there. wouldn't mind seeing him play a Key position role, might only get a couple of games in the AFL next year

I've been watching the VFL and watching King and i was impressed this kid is built and has good pace, he showed that he can play in the AFL with this game and knows how to use the ball well, i was hoping he would be moved onto medhurst and did and held him well. i can't wait to watch him develop in the AFL next year. is certain to get a rising star nomination next year

and last but certainly not least, my favourite

Luke Shakelton, this kid is a tank!! and is a real tough nut, been watching him also in the VFL, likes it rough and will go in the packs to get the ball.does the little things and is a team player. needs to lose a bit of weight in the off-season but will be a gun once he is fully fit

didn't see much of maxwell or crowe to gain much of a opinon of them

I was particularly impressed with King, Cam Cloke and Shackleton
I guess Cloke can play as a permanent forward next year, provide another option and support Rocca, Tarrant, Davidson etc

David King is really impressive. He is big and strong for a youngster, explosive and speedy, and knows how to rebound while being accountable. Would of liked seeing more rebounding this game, but he did a great job on Medhurst. Definately should make at least a handful of seniour appearences next year. That piece of play where he was exploding through the pack was great.
Bo Nixon is a weird sort of player. He played CHF in juniour years but isn't really big enough to play their now. He is almost the same type of player as James Hird (obviously not in the same league as far as skill goes) in that he is able to play almost anywhere, also has the same kind of body shape as him. Didn't play that well but didn't look to have much time on the ground, but was composed with the ball and seems to get a fair bit of it.

Mullins is a speedy outside midfielder. His weakness is his light frame and weak ability when it comes to getting the hard ball. It's not like he's afraid of the hard ball, it's just that he can't get it. Didn't show much.

Shackleton - The Shack looks like a real tough, in and under specialist just like McGough, has better skills than McGough, and is stronger, but doesn't quite have the ball getting ability of McGough. Despite his girth, he is quick when he needs to be. However with our abundance of in and under midfielders, he will be fighting for position with McGough, and the 2 Shaws coming in, so I think we should trade McGough before he is forgotten by the football world simply for not getting a game in our side (like Scotland was), and the memory of a few great (even match-winning) games still lasts.

Crow did almost nothing and Richards, apart from a few good taps was disapointing.
Maxwell impressed for the small amount of time on the ground.

Dane Swan should replace Leon Davis as the resident flashy forward as he is much more flexible, he can play in the backhalf as well. He should also cover for Didak as he takes on different roles in the midfield.

C.Cloke was impressive for the quarter or so he played. Would of liked to see him in the ruck, but we had about 50 ruckman playing. Showed a fair bit in the forward line against pretty good opposition.

King was very impressive.
Gave away a bit too much space to Farmer at times but he is still very young and will improve.

Good pace and thumping kick.

Bit worried with Nixon though. Was he worth being our first selection in the draft last year? Awkward player.

Cloke was quite good, King and Shackleton were a presence. Bowman did a couple of nice things...but I was really pleased with Shaws and Didaks game, good on em.

Shaw? gee looked nervous, made some ****ing stupid mistakes again like the granny other then that was ok. Once again performs when it matters, ohh hang on a min

guess who? hmm ok.... mike sheehan? ..
shaw and didak looked very good, fair enough shaw slipped, but he ran out of that backline so many farkin times, didak looked unreal up the ground, cant wait for next year. cam cloke did some very good things.. nice tap over into the goal square too. with presti, bucks, burns, tazza blah blah out i didnt think we would win, but the young guys showed plenty, rocca didnt get much game time, and half the guys from both teams looked like they were smashed:p

who is this Swan guy and where did he come from ???

son of Port Melbourne & Williamstown VFA legend Bill Swan. Drafted from Western Jets (i think) 2001 Nov draft.
Played about 4 games for the year.
Impressed me when played in the backline vs Richmond rd 16. Good overhead.

pretty harsh, he touched it about 20 times, not bad for 80 min of football. Numerous forays from half back, outrunning blokes likes Schammer and then delivering. Had a couple of clangers (who doesnt, really) got his body in the way a few times and didnt shirk the issue. He did have a couple of slips on the turf, but one he recovered from and got a constructive handball away.

Personally, I liked what I saw from him, considering what he went though a couple of weeks ago.

I thought Shaw looked soft and his disposal was very ordinary considering he was usually on his lonesome.

Tough crowd this....Rhyce did some very nice things, it wasnt often he had a leading target to hit, as Anthony was out of sorts, no Taz, and Josh barely stepped on the ground. I rewatched it last night and I thought he was excellent, definitely our best player. He never directly coughed it up (ie the Lynch fiasco), did kick to a contest most of the time, but only because of no targets.

You have examples as to why you are so harsh on him? (please try not to carry grudges from the grandfinal, he has to leave that behind him, and so do we)

Kinnear Kinnear Kinnear.

Why is he still at Collingwood?

What a crap game from a crap player.

Sorry to everyone who likes him, but he really does nothing all the time. Not Big Not Small Not Fast Kicking is **it.

I will be amazed if he plays more than a couple of games next year.

I didn’t really care about the game, i am just confused why we re-signed him, he shows nothing, Shaw I recon is still coming to grips with his GF performance, and really you have to say with 7 boys playing that have never played a senior game we probably not taking it serious. Shaw had a pretty good year in 2003 and as have said before, one game doesn’t make you a bad player, but I don’t this I have seen Kinner play a good game. Just lacks that something.

On another note dose anyone no why Cole didn’t play? I would have thought he would have being young ECT. Maybe he is up for trade!

Agreed that one game doesn't make you a bad player, Cole being up for trade I wouldn't think so.

Me too but i wonder why he wasnt playing?

There was talk of Cole and Essendon!

Bucks, Burns, Taz etc didn't play

Clem as well, but with the boys mentioned all older senior blokes Presti, Wowy another, just would have thought Cole after his GF performance would have played like shaw, just asking the question, has he had an opperation? Bucks Taz have!

Just seams strange
