Good people of Bigfooty welcome to the greatest thread of the London Olympics. This thread was nearly derailed when the Polish women's volleyball team failed to qualify for the Olympics but the show must go on. I'll kick us off with one of the stars of the 2008 games Dutch hockey player Ellen Hoog.

Was on NBC's site today and was looking at the US athletics team profiles. Saw Lolo Jones profile (100m Hurdles she was going to win the gold in 2008 but hit the 9th hurdle and finished 7th) who finished 3rd at US trials and thought about making this thread when I saw the photos from when she was on Jay Leno's show.

I saw Chaunte Lowe the other day win the Diamond League High Jump at the Crystal Palace meet and thought what a great smile and backside Olympic Hottie. She won the event and track and field news tips her to win silver in London. Here is a photo after her winning jump at the US trials.

Yep, but looking at her past Olympic results she won't be on screen much, if at all.
......

Yeah she isn't really world standard. If you check her IAAF profile she hasn't even thrown a B qualifier for either Olympics or when she went to Athens.

I think she gets in under one of the 2 exemptions listed below. These were the conditions for the 2011 world championship which also apply to London, just the IAAF haven't put them up for London just the times and distances needed for an A and B qualifier which are 61.00m and 59.00m. Looking at the wiki link re athletics at the 2008 Olympics, Paruaguay only sent 1 male and 1 female competitor, both Javelin throwers. The camera will be on her when she walks in the main stadium during the Opening Ceremony. The cameras picked her up no problem in Beijing.

  3. The Area Champions in all the individual events (except the Marathons) automatically qualify for the World Championships and will be considered as having achieved the "A" standard (see specific Regulations below).

  4. Unqualified Athletes:
    - Members who have no male and/or no female qualified athletes whom they wish to enter in any event may enter one unqualified male athlete and/or one unqualified female athlete in one individual event except the 10,000m, 3000m Steeplechase and the Combined Events.
    - The acceptance of unqualified entries in the Field Events is at the discretion of the Technical Delegates.
    - Entries for unqualified athletes must be submitted by 1 August 2011. If another athlete then achieves the entry standard before the end of the qualification period, it will be possible to change the entry accordingly.

I think she gets in under one of the 2 exemptions listed below.

She must get in the Unqualified Athletes exemption, as she came 2nd in the Ibero-America comp which I think rules her out of the 1st exemption and her personal best is what she threw at that comp a 57.77m. Which is still short of B qualifier.

I'm not going to complain, might make the Javelin worth watching.
