Great to see membership numbers on the PAFC homepage for the first time. The failure to release these in the past has made us seem cagey.
Current 2008 figure 14,837 2/1, 2008 target 36,340 (to match 2004)
14,486 27/12
14,075 21/12
13,121 19/12

Now in a bid to ensure I'm never seen as satisfied I'd like to know what they mean by member and see the breakdown e.g. club members, game day members, SANFL members, adult, child etc.

The club wont do it. Lets be honest the 35 odd thousand members the club claim we have is not an accurate reflection. Take out Category 1 members for a start and watch the fall.........

I thought membership numbers and a target were featured on the home page throughout 2007 (at least up until June 30), just not as prominently as this latest feature.
Not that I ever saw. Info on membership no's always came indirectly (for me) via media comparisons.

I am sure I once saw that Port had 33ishK members on the site. I used it to settle a disagreement with a mate.

For what its worth i would love to see you guys at 40K. Gives our state a better arguement to build a better stadium.

I know plenty of young (25-32) profesional Port "supporters" who are not members. That is a market that I think Port are failing to capture.

In 2007 the club had a target page on it's website for 35,000 member which we ended up with, 34,073. Underneath the membership total the club stated that the total included season ticket holders + SANFL Cat 1 and Cat 3 members + planet teal members.

I did a quick search and posted this info several times in 2007.
On 7th September
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8658627&postcount=6

According to this page on the afl's website
http://afl.com.au/Season2007/News/NewsArticle/tabid/208/Default.aspx?newsId=47928

we had 34,073 members as at 30 June 2007.

From Port's website, they had a members update meter and always had this under the figure;
Note: This membership figure is a combination of Power Season Ticket Holders, AAMI Category 1 & 3 Members, and Planet Teal (junior) members.
and from 10th June

1. How many members have we got officially in 2007?
From the club's website
2007 Power Membership Update

Current (1 June 07) - 33,665
Target - 35,000

Note: This membership figure is a combination of Power Season Ticket Holders, AAMI Category 1 & 3 Members, and Planet Teal (junior) members.

This suggests that people who are solely members of the club aren't counted. Therefore, it looks like people who are only Full members, or Country members, or Out of SA members or Victorian members aren't counted. However I would like to have that clarified by the club
Planet Teal membership entitles the kids to attend 4 or 5 games. Therefore, these are effectively ticketed memberships.

In 2008 that will change to include all 11 games for Planet Teal members.

http://portadelaidefc.com.au/Membership/MembershipBrochure/tabid/10679/Default.aspx
Get 11 games (including Showdown*) with your Planet Teal Membership. And bring Mum or Dad along for only $15 per game!

When you get a Cat 1 you nominate the club you support, in my case Port.
To remove the Cat 1 from the figures would be doing a dis-service to PAFC members, cows Cat 1 are not counted by PAFC in their member numbers.

No different to Telstra stadium or AFL members...so the figures are legit.

Wrong. The fact you say you support Port on your membership form means you get the club's litetature. That's all. Cat 1 members are counted in both sets of memberships so there is a double counting. However this benefits both clubs when it comes to GF ticket allocations. Both Port and the crows end up with more GF tickets by double counting.

At the President's lunch before the Carlton game in August I sat on the table with Port's Financial controller David Bartlett. I asked him about what we get from SANFL memberships. He said that for a Cat 1 both Port and the crows get $120 from the $400+ adullt SANFL cat 1 membership. He said that Port get $120 for every cat 3 membership and the crows $120 from cat 2.

David said the amount is set by what ever the AFL Club membership Adult 11 season pass is in Victoria. In 2007 it was $120. This is also the same amount that the AFL pays to the clubs when an AFL member indicates who he/she supports ie AFL member Club Support package.

Further proof that crows cat 1 members are counted in our total this year was the GF tickets. My mate who lives in Sydney, is a Port supporter, but is an AFL member with Sydney support because he goes to all the Swans games and goes to the GF and has got in to everyone since 2000, got a ticket because his brother who is a port supporter and SANFL cat 1 member, got a barcode from his mate who is a crows supporter and SANFL cat 1 member. If crows cat 1 members weren't counted he would not have received a barcode to have the right to apply for GF tickets.
