Obviously that'd be stupid, but they could find a better way for companies to get involved with sponsoring clubs within those three years.
Like what?
Naming their arenas? Advertising on the boards? Advertising on the signs throughout the arena?
There's already so many ads in the TV coverage, so that won't help.

Literally everything but jerseys in the NBA is covered in logos, it's pretty much the only step left.

Ferrari and Marlboro.

So iconic that even a total ban on tobacco advertising hasn't stopped the partnership. First they used the "barcode" design to mimic the Marlboro wordmark, and when even that was banned as it was deemed subliminal advertising, they just redesigned the team logo to have a similar look and put that on the side of the car.
New regulations for the Spanish GP mean teams have to put numbers or driver's name on the side. This is Ferrari's solution.

Not saying that what you suggested wasn't the inspiration behind the solution to the regulation change, but....
