I find it really hard to see us challenging for the flag next year. Really hard. Somewhere from 5-12.
Our list will be stronger in 2017 than it is now, and we were one kick away from a Prelim, so I can definitely see it.

Natural progression of a couple of youngsters. An improved midfield. A tall forward. A refocused Clarko.

We'll be up there.

Just wish we could swap coaches !!!!!!!!!!!!!;););)

You guy will be in the top 4 next year, no worry
But North 6-10 (hopefully):(:(:(, all depends on the injury lists.

Draft well and we will be another chance next year.
After that we will lose Hodge, Burgers and Gibbo you would think which would make it tough.

We also need to find out ability to score again.

I can see a parting flag for these guys. The old blokes were the ones putting in at the end.

Anyway, we've hit the down turn at pretty much the right time to make sure we win a flag in the 2020s. 1 a decade is the bare minimum we need to expect.

With the group we have, I can't see them giving up the ghost and not wanting one more crack at it while Hodgey and the like are still there.
Clarko has three more years left on his contract - I reckon he'd love to go out with at least one more flag under his belt.

You might be right. I had 3 years head to head with the big C at 35. 6 lots of invasive surgery. Diagnosed in 2005 all clear in 2008. Hence my name tag is not just about the last flag I thought I might see.:thumbsu:

Just pointing out he has avoided any surgery which is a huge plus. If the treatment is successful he should bounce back pretty well being young and fit.

Fact 1. He hasn't had any surgery, and 2. He was in super shape when diagnosed are in Rough's favour. There is nothing I would like more than to see him get the all clear, and if he can wear the brown and gold again, that will be a bonus. Imagine the moral boost to he team if this were to happen next year, mid season.

We have a great history of taking time to prepare young players, so I wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 3 are ready to step up in 2017. I am hoping Kiwi, and Lovell will get a lot of games, and how pleasing would it be so wee Woddy in the middle with JOM and Tom Mitchell.

We will be top 4 again no problem

Burton has a full year
Whitecross has a full year
O'Meara has a full year
Mitchell has a full year
Shoenmakers has a full year CHF
O'Brian has a full year FF
Brand has a full year at CHB
Sicily has another year to improve and be a star
Vickery - take a grab and kick a couple

That's 9 players that will be regulars and make a massive impact to our chances. We are in the middle of a mini rebuild!

Add to that full preseasons (and a proper holiday) for the veterens, then I reckon we spring back!

Chins ups! We need a rest from all these exhausting grand finals! The veterns get one last massive crack at in 2017!

I've gone through the players we drafted during 2010 - 2013 as these are the players that should be stepping up to the seniors and entering their prime years in 2017. These numbers were taken from http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/td-hawthorn-hawks?year=2010.

This is just to see how well we've drafted, and how likely these guys are to come in and make a difference.

Litherland is most vulnerable looking at that and the rookie selections don't make for good reading.

Would like to see the Bulldogs' drafting during that period.

Did a comparison. They had some father/sons and Early picks which they have built their team around. They've also done well in the rookie drafts.

Remember very difficult for young players to break into a back to back premiership
Our success has also lead a little to our mixed form this year with the younger players trying to hold their spot in the team
Yep. Double edged sword.

Now we are going to have to rely on them in 2017

Did one with Sydney. This is a more even look as Sydney had similar picks to us during this period.

As much as we complain about their COLA and getting Buddy for nothing, they've drafted extremely well. 2012 Rookie draft especially.

Yes but I think, as has been mentioned before if we hadn't got over those lines in those tight ones and the dream of Fourthorn was shattered early, a different team selection process might have gave 1 or 2 players a longer stint. Which would have given us a stronger base now.

Also as Clarko said in the presser on Friday night, we will reload and get better as he has always done will tinker the plan to match t
he strengths of the players when they arrive at waverly in their various heights and abilities. And in the next couple of weeks there will some earnest discussions with some players and that may also cause a ripple or two in who we need.

Those father sons have been kind to the Doggies. Geelong like almost.

Hawthorn's 80s' champs have not fared as well off the pitch as on it!

To be brutally honest I'll be very surprised if we see Rough in the brown and gold again. Cancer just isn't like that. The good news is that he is alive, not that he may come back to play for us again.

Will be ecstatic to be proven wrong of course!

We have Sicily, and I feel like I saw just enough from TOB this year to think that he may be something in the medium term future.
Don't be so negative on Roughy.

I'm not expecting a genuine tilt at the flag in 2017. What am I am expecting, is more games into Burton/Howe/Lovell/Stewart/O'Brien/Sicily/Woodward/Brand/Heatherly.

Some of those guys have to get games so they can take over from the Hodge/Burgoyne/Lewis/Gibson/SMitchell core.

Best case, we get a couple of games into Rough as well. I'd be thinking 2018-2019 is where it's going to be at people.
