Remove the spuds and it's a very small list really...:D
The Lions' current injury list is probably the longest that we've had in recent memory:
Cian Hanley (Knee) - Season
Jonathan Freeman (Ankle) - 6-8 weeks
Pearce Hanley (Hip) - Test
Trent West (Knee) - 3 weeks
Jackson Paine (Ankle) - Season
Michael Close (Knee) - Season
Dan Merrett (Hamstring) - Indefinite
Jaden McGrath (Foot) - 8-10 weeks
Matt Maguire (Concussion) - Indefinite
Brent Staker (Hamstring) - 3-4 weeks
Luke McGuane (Knee) - Indefinite
Dan McStay (Finger) - 1-2 weeks
Jack Redden (Back) - Test
Jed Adcock (Calf) - 3 weeks
James Aish (Jaw) - 4-5 weeks
Tom Rockliff (Ribs) - 4-6 weeks
Darcy Gardiner (Calf) - 1-2 weeks
Claye Beams (Knee) - TBC
Ryan Harwood (Concussion) - Test
With Daniel Rich also a likely out with hip soreness.

Has played "just" 126 of a 284 possible games (including finals) in 12 1/2 seasons with North Melbourne (107 of 226) and Geelong (19 of 58).
Genuinely surprised McIntosh has played that many at Geelong.

I don't think I've seen him play more than a handful of times, and I've watched plenty of Geelong games.

Geelong have to do something (and probably will this year) about having so many perennially injured types. Cowan, Clark, Delaney, McCarthy, McIntosh, Menzel and Vardy are 7 of 44 list spots for guys who are lucky to see the field (plus the 2 who have retired). 3 of those for ruck/fwd types as well.

I think the club knows this and probably aren't too worried about it as you aren't planning on winning the flag this year but I guess McIntosh surely retires at the end of this year and tough calls probably have to be made on Cowan, Delaney, McCarthy, Menzel and Vardy.

The NFL system allowing injured players to go on injured reserve and clubs to sign replacements might be fairer. You guys at Geelong probably have to make tough calls on whether to sign or keep more mature depth players or to use the late round/rookie list spots to develop kids.
Hit nail on the head here. It's our own fault for keeping guys who just aren't coming back and also recruiting more injury players Shi ts me to tears.

Obviously a few players that never made it and only played a few games (like Faulks, Crichton, Mellington). But very solid players (McPhee, Grover, DeBoer) and a bit of quality (Pav, Fyfe, Walters, Mundy) as well. And a few unknown ones who never got much opportunity (Silvagni, Griffin) or had bad injury runs (Morabito, Pitt). Overall the mix probably is not worse then the average AFL list...

Yeah?

It's impressive how openly you admit to having no clue I guess. Have bolded the names you should have heard of as following,
Fremantle Injury List
Hayden Ballantyne (hamstring) - season
Justin Bollenhagen (ankle) - test
Jesse Crichton (knee) - season
Matt de Boer (knee) - season
Peter Faulks (jaw) - season
Nathan Fyfe (shoulder) - season
Jonathan Griffin (hip) - season
Antoni Grover (soreness) - test
Roger Hayden (leg) - season
Garrick Ibbotson (shoulder) - season
Nick Lower (shoulder) - season
Adam McPhee (foot) - season
Josh Mellington (elbow) - test
Viv Michie (foot) - season
Anthony Morabito (knee) - season
David Mundy (ankle) - season
Matthew Pavlich (hip) - season
Jayden Pitt (groin) - test
Dylan Roberton (ankle) - season
Gavin Roberts (quad) - season
Alex Silvagni (concussion) - test
Jay van Berlo (groin) - season
Michael Walters (knee) - season

Reckon I've been generous to you with some but of the 23 there you should have heard of 14 at least. All either best 22 at the time or immediate replacements for best 22 players (Silvagni, Griffin).

Crichton/Lower/Mellington/Pitt/van berlo weren't exactly household names I admit but were in the 22-30 range- essentially even our depth was injured.

We were utterly crippled that year.

2011 - we were playing shite footy in the second half of the season because Harves had lost the plot, but in his defence the injury list didn't allow us to be competitive.
Thats a bit harsh he was about ready to pull the boots on himself, hard to coach if you have no players.

Bennell just withdrew from tomorrow's match with a calf injury - that means our top six mids are now out. I cannot remember a side losing its best six mids in 35 odd years of watching VFL/AFL.

Port Adelaides injury list at the end of 2006. They had to play two players they had already delisted in the post season exhibition game vs geelong in London.
