It's a weird situation. Roos comments in the press suggests he is putting a bit of pressure on Longmire to stay but you do wonder what happened to this

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22263752-2722,00.html

To be fair, that article is nearly two years old now. A lot can happen in two years, and the re-signing of Roos till 2011 either says to me they don't think Longmire is ready, or Roos is not ready to give up the reigns.

How long is Longmire willing to be the bridesmaid? If we do happen to lose him, would love to get Harley on board.

I say we must grab him & perhaps Harley, should Longmire & the other guys leave, & we will be on our way to new success with Roos steering.

Even if Longmire stays, we will need some new voices in the players ears!
Harley's a great idea, something I hadn't thought of yet. He is moving up here next year regardless right? I doubt we will pick him up as a player unless we use our Pre-Season draft pick on him. We constantly hear what a great leader he is and he's obviously been part of a very successful team for a while now. It would be great for the young guys coming into the club to have someone they have grown up watching dominate the comp as a coach around the club.

There are inherent risks in rebuilding a coaching team and a playing team at the same time. I accept that some new blood may be needed, but I also do smell a little desparation in that thinking too. The other disadvantage of losing experienced assistant coaches (at the same time as senior players are also leaving) is that all of the leadership responsibilities get thrown back on the Coach, at least in the short term. This would be a complete turnaround from the Roos "decentralized" coaching model of the past few years. Risky stuff IMO. The loss of Longmire, at this particular time, might be a bigger blow than is appreciated right now.

I also agree with Bigbez. You need to consider only what the "new blood" will bring and just being "new blood" will never be enough. If it becomes necessary, I hope an experienced assistant coach is considered, not a recently retired player with no coaching experience at all.

just watching him on 'before the game', not that its up to him, but he said something about being a fan of bringing someone up from within the club..

If he suggested otherwise he'll have all the coaches underneath not backing him anymore. He must say that regardless of what he thinks privately.

yeah your probably right, but he could have answered however he wanted, didnt even have to say that

Well we have to wait another year to find out how good he is, i just hope he freshens up the coaching panel

Well I'll be f***ed...can't believe he'll be the coach come 2011! Right move, wrong move, I don't know but to lose Roos as the coach will be an absolute life changing moment as it was when my life changed in 2005.

Your first erection?

If Roosy thinks it's the right way to go then I'm happy. Horse has had premiership success as a player and an assistant and he's had a long stint learning from the best.

No sorry mate...that happened when I found out you were a Malceski Fan ;)

I'm not a huge Longmire fan, but I'm more than happy to reserve judgement.

You guys must be stoked with the Longmire appointment! I know I would be

Am a big fan of anyone to come out of the Paul Roos school of coaching (obviously, lol) and can see Sydney back playing finals quite soon.

Well done to the Swans
