Does anyone see Noah Answerth fitting back in?
I actually can see him playing a midfield role in 2024.
That's assuming he plays that position at VFL level.
We have a reasonable number of players that can play midfield, but depth is getting a little thin if injury strikes.

Neale & Dunkley similar midfield time.
I see McCluggage having a shade more midfield time.
Bailey more midfield time.
Rayner about the same or slightly more midfield time.
Zorko the same but most likely less midfield time.
Dev barring injury probably gets first crack at holding onto his spot. I don't think it is a given though.

Then we have
Lyons who should get some games. At least 1 so he is F/S eligible for the Lions.
After that it is Tunstill maybe Sharp
Wings should stay the same Berry, Fletcher, then maybe Wilmott or Ah Chee, Sharp.

Hopefully Ashcroft ready mid-year.

I think he's destined to be one of those players where his body just won't let him get the best of himself. I think he could play a role if he got it right. A bit of mid work in the ressies and he could play a wing/mid, and he's been playing a hb/wing. If he can string a cpl of seasons, injury free, together I reckon he could surprise with a Lester like season or two down the track.

He seems to be the anti-move to Qld to get ur body right.

Besides Will Ashcroft and Tom Doedee is there anyone else on our list that will not be able to have a full no holds barred pre season training block?

He's worth holding onto if Ah Chee is destined to become a permanent forward/wing rotation.

Answorth is a quiet bloke, but he's got some aggression in the way he plays. His toolset is a bit limited, but if he could play on the wing, I'd like to see him get a shot over Berry.

Nothing against Berry, but he can't play in the middle (which is his natural position). I don't see him in the 1st's in three years' time given there's players like Sharp in the twos.

Neale had hernia surgery I believe.

Payne had ankle surgery.

I think(?) Berry had shoulder surgery again.

I could be wrong on all three, just what I think I’ve heard or read.

Jimmy Madden (shoulder surgery) and Kai Lohmann (collarbone) also had late season surgeries that may delay their ability to do full-on body contact work when pre-season commences.

That's more than I thought been in to see the panel beaters. Lohmann, Michael, Answerth, Madden as well. Ashcroft and Doedee longer term. The medical and fitness teams all ready have their hands full. Neale n Payne are the only ones I'd really like to see up and ready for round 1.

Berry, I'm very happy to see get as much time as needed to improve those shoulders. He needs to add a bit more to his game and if he can get his shoulders good enough for 15 maybe 20 mins a game inside mid at a consistent level, he'll do that. Contract time coming up for him, and I have no doubt he'll be offered one. But it's the difference between an upgrade in cash and years, being best 22 or shorter term, same cash, and knowing your at risk of being overtaken and becoming depth. Big season for him, give him time, get his shoulders good enough and give him the best opportunity to improve.

I don't believe anything is going to improve Berry's shoulders.

I'm also sure his last contract was on pretty decent coin (not C.Cameron type coin). Don't believe he'll ever be offered an upgrade on that type of cash.

With the draft done and dusted I thought I would give next seasons team a go. I'm expecting the AFL to go with 5 subs next year and drop the strategic sub, if that's the case IMO we go back to 2 genuine rucks. With everyone available >

Seniors >

Brandon Starcevich, Jack Payne, Darcy Wilmot.
Keidean Coleman, Harris Andrews, Tom Doedee.

Oscar McInerney, Lachie Neale, Josh Dunkley.
Hugh McCluggage, Will Ashcroft, Jarrod Berry.

Charlie Cameron, Eric Hipwood, Cam Rayner.
Lincoln McCarthy, Joe Daniher, Zac Bailey.

Dev Robertson, Connor McKenna, Dayne Zorko, Jaspa Fletcher, Darcy Fort.

Reserves >

Shadeau Brain, Darragh Joyce, Carter Michael.
James Madden, Zane Zakostelsky, Ryan Lester.

Henry Smith, Jarryd Lyons, James Tunstill.
Harry Sharp, Callum Ah Chee, Jaxon Prior.

Logan Morris, Luke Lloyd, Noah Answerth.
Reece Torrent, Brandon Ryan, Kai Lohmann.

Kalin Lane, Darcy Gardiner + top ups.

I think the last 2 spots will be between Dev Robertson, Callum Ah Cheee and Jaspa Fletcher, one of them misses out.[/PLAYERCARD]

Darcy Gardiner?

i wonder if we can accomodate all 4 of gardiner, payne, andrews and doedee in the same backline. similar structure to geelongs 2022 defence where they had kolodjashnij, de koning, henry and stewart all playing in the same side, with stanley floating back after ruck contests to offer even more tall support. we could have doedee play the role stewart does at geelong as a pure floating interceptor, whilst gardiner and payne play more lockdown and andrews sits at a happy median of intercepting and playing on his man. starcevich plays small defender, with coleman as a rebounding flanker. makes for a very elite defensive profile if it all clicks

would probably require one of wilmot / mckenna to play further up the ground. i think wilmot has real potential in all 3 areas of the ground, but looks quite settled across half back.

Bloody hell I knew I missed someone... thanks, I will edit.
That’s an almighty fall for Darcy Gardiner now.
Relegated to the bench of the vfl team.
Surely we can slot him in for ZZ and put the young fella on the bench.

Have you heard this as a possibility anywhere?
Or just media talk about what they think should happen?
