Looking ahead to Next Week - Dees vs Pies

Yeah I'm serious.

I really hope neeld plays him more than Bailey did so he can prove me right.

Don't get me wrong - Bennell isn't useless - I just don't think he's anywhere as good as you guys seem to think he is. Obviously the same thing can be said from you guys regarding Jetta.

But what has Jetta done for you to throw him so carelessly in to the Rioli category? Seriously?

I want every player at the club to succeed and reach their potential but your analysis of Jetta is naive and based on next to nothing. He has played 2-3 decent games for us at the most.

As I said in an earlier post - I believe that with more game time and polishing his skills - Jetta could quite easily be at the level of Rioli.

Both Rioli and Jetta play a crumbing role, both are light and quick on their feet, and both play VERY well around the goal line. Clearly Jetta isn't as polished as rioli, but given more games, he could quite easily become a standout for us

Jetta had a good year on 2009 - but since then saw very little time on the ground. Here's his stats for the last 3 years.

Now clearly Rioli is better, he's been given ALOT more game time, He's been in the system longer, and he's had a better coaches working with him, but take all that into account and with the same support and game time - I don't think it's a long shot in saying he could very well be our Rioli.

Jetta will be a very good WAFL player. But he has no real attributes that would make him a good AFL player. (He is slow and has so-so endurance, not great overhead, small in body size, not a great user of the footy, does not accumulate large numbers of possessions or hit the scoreboard, etc.)

He is an extremely good tackler and applies great pressure to opponents at VFL level, but you need more strings to your bows than this at VFL level.

It gives me no pleasure to post these things. :(

Your stats mean jack to me. Like many others have said he will never, ever get near that level and we have all seen him play. If you are so confident of this go and post it on the AFL board and watch everyone keel over in laughter. I admire your "belief" in our players, but honestly, you are clutching at straws here. I said before that I would love to see all of our players reach those high levels (and who wouldn't?) but you aren't being realistic in the slightest.

Oh and I believe with more game time that Lynden Dunn will be our version of Chris Judd, Gary Ablett and Dane Swan combined. Because, you know, he had a good year once. And that means he can be just as good. So, yeah.

According to the Herald Sun both Clark and Bartram will be rested this week. Pretty annoying as I was looking forward to seeing how Clark did this week in the dry conditions...

I'm quite looking forward to seeing more of Tynan. Smokey for a Rd1 spot?

I'm with you on this one too but it might give Watts the opportunity to play a little closer to goal and kick a few goals which will do wonders for his confidence. I'm sure Martin and Jamar will spend some time down their too with the usual suspects.

Neeld said Watts worked hard on the weekend and that they were pleased with his 'effort' but not his output.

"His GPS numbers were great" apparently; also said he'll be starting forward against the Pies.

That's great, Watts can run around for the entire duration of the game, rack up next to no possessions, but his GPS output will be great. I am sure we will win a lot of games as long as the 22 on the field get good GPS output!

There is a bit of sarcasm here. I have no doubt Watts will be a very good player and he just didn't have a great night, but quoting GPS figures doesn't really do it for me. Like giving someone a gold star for trying.

It was a response to some people who had stated he didn't even look like he was trying (iirc); so there was some context to it mate.

Tbf he will cop that 'doesn't look to be trying' line every time he has a bad game... That's just the way he looks, he could be putting in 117% and would still look laid-back and casual.
