Practice what you preach please. What is this post of yours if not "social policing". As you know from our detailed debate in the past over Thornton, I am delighted to talk football. As to humour, while I expect my posts are an acquired taste and are unlikely to amuse the directed recipient, I am sure there are some who recognise a snippet of wit when they read it.

The last time I looked this was a Carlton forum and by extension most here happen to be Carlton supporters and by further extension we enjoy talking things Carlton, because by far and away that's why we are here.

It just works better that way than setting out to prop yourself up by putting others down.
If it's an intellectual battle you crave there are other ways to go about it but don't be fooled that we're all bogans here either.

Yeah! I once won a class quiz thingy back in primary school!
don't worry b4f. If you want to feel better and super smart go and read Celtic Pride's rants on the CFC facebook page. My 3 month old daughter looks like a Rhodes scholar next to that tripe!

Was kinda selling myself a touch short above, guns.

Refuse to read the crap posted by c_p as it's giving him exactly what he craves.

very entertaining. Challenged me to a fight last week knowing we are on different coasts. Has challenged another BF regular this week. Problem for him is they are both in Melb. Tickets - get your tickets here. Step right up step right up......

Wrong. Now take your delusions of eloquence back to the Melbourne board.

So Sin City you now speak for the entire community of posters on the Carlton Board and yet it is I who have the delusions. For those who read posts for matters pertaining to football you will recall it was you who but 1 week ago was claiming Thornton was a "core" player of the team and i who was arguing he was not. Fortunately the MC was not persuaded by your ridiculous notions and I suspect, now, neither are you. Perhaps it is you rather than I who should peddle nonsense on alian boards.

Just because a player goes through a bad patch of form doesn't mean they're not a core player. I support the decision to omit him but I haven't forgotten the excellent footy he played for us last year. Waite was also dropped. Scotland and Russell were dropped last year and not that long ago St Kilda made the decision to drop Milne and Dal Santo. No one would argue those guys are not core players in their team, they were not dropped for being bad players, they were dropped as a kick in the pants.

Your examples and argument are undeniable. I agree that being dropped in itself does not proveThornton is not a core player. On the other hand I think an examination of the reasons for him being dropped does support the claim he is not a core player. Your support for Thornton's omission is sensible but ill-suits the tenor of your posts prior to its occurrence. In particular do you now agree that playing every game last year and finishing in the top 10 in the B&F is as useful as driving by looking only through the rear vision mirror in terms of determining who is or is not a core player this year.

Not really, finishing 8th in the B&F in a finals side shows what he is capable of. The MC have decided that dropping him is the kick in the pants he needs, if he gets back in top form he is in the team.

Big test against the Cats next week, but there's no reason why we can't get them on Monday. No so strong down back when they had Scarlett/Taylor/Harley all together, and what they used to do so well was to zone off and really cut Fev's influence. Even though they are still a very good team, I just don't think they have that invincability about them now.

Nothing like a good win to restore optimism, eh?

We should aim for one of the next three to give the less 'faithful' supporters concrete proof that we are going places.

You are either a troll hiding behind an alias ..or possibly the worst Carlton supporter in history ...i'm tipping you are a troll. :thumbsd:

Time to check your tipping.

As for "worst supporter ever" - how much have you donated to the CFC in the last 10 years? Last time I bothered to count I was above the 25k mark.

If you can't handle discussions on potential ways to improve our club I feel sorry for you. Who would have thought on a footy forum people would dare to discuss something!

Your village called....it wants its idiot back!

Thank you for the uncalled for, undeserved but complimentary comparison to Thomas Hardy. Are you watching Tess as well? As to your suggestion that my post was as a "proof of scholastic qualification" funnily enough I was unaware that either (a) any "scholastic qualification" was necessary in order to post; or (b) that any scholastic qualification would fit one for the task. Perhaps you could explain what you mean by this indegistible regurgitation of yours.

Despite my alleged lack of scholastic qualification (which I cannot dispute, not knowing what is being referred to) you then ask me whether my use of the phrase "relapsing back" is as redundant as my attempt at snooty elitism. In answering let me break your question down into its component parts - it will be easier for you to follow that way.

First, full marks for noting that "relapsing back" is a tautology and that "back" is redundant since their is no other way to relapse. Of course the use of tautology for emphasis is not, unless excessive, generally regarded as impoverished or inadequate expression, still less ungrammatical. Indeed delightful words such as "quagmire", made up of the two words "quag" and "mire" and all meaning the same thing, are happily used by English speakers without concern from readers or listeners. But I digress.

The second part of your question involves the assumption that my post was an "attempt at snooty elitism". (In passing, your use of the expression "snooty elitism" involves tautology also but we can move on now that you understand that this is permissible although, in this instance a little cliched. Perhaps if you had used "overweening" or "egotistical" instead of "snooty" it might have been a bit more inventive.)

You are mistaken. That was not what I was attempting although I wonder whether you are brave enough to offer an opinion as to whether you think I successfully achieved "snooty elitism". Having praised my writing style I am disappointed that I had not made the intention of my post sufficiently clear. Certainly you have quite missed the point. My purpose was to encourage genuine football debate and discourage opinionated put down as its substitute. The tenor of your post offers evidence of your obduracy.

Your final sentence I regret to say is evidence of a significant inability on your part to think clearly. This is exposed by asking, in relation to that sentence, this question. How is it possible to commit "crimes against sport on bf through opinions" "right or wrong"? What an odd, twisted place BF must be if a "crime" may be committed by an opinion rightly maintained.

As a final, gratutitous comment on your post, let me urge you to join those of us who enjoy healthy debate on matters football and leave behind you your posting past insofar as it involves shallow efforts of policing by invective rather than reason the opinions of others with whom you might disagree. Come on now, there's a good Thylacine.

 Imagine meeting it in person?

Let's blame the guy who kicked off with 'recidivist' shall we?

I'm pretty sure that pulled the elocutionary trigger...

Good point - let's continue the 'looking ahead' theme...

Geelong are vulnerable right now. Good chance to try and get them.

The Adelaide game contrasted with the Essendon game shows that our fate is in our own hands. It's about work ethic and smart coaching. We had reasonable measures of both yesterday.

With regard to the forward line, I think Yarran is getting better and better, Betts is useful but definitely just a crumber; he's too dodge on a set shot to bother using him as a leading forward regularly. Lachie is coming good. I still hold out some interest in Thornton in the forward line. Waite obviously needs more time.

Geelong will be looking to make amends over the next few weeks so we'll have to be vigilant but if we can keep up the work ethic, we'll be a good chance for sure.

By the way, my prediction for top 4 at season's end:

Geelong
Brisbane
Collingwood
Saints
with Bulldogs interchangeable with Saints depending on how the year evolves.
