Matthew Cowdrey - won the men's swimming team is only 2 individual commonwealth gold medals, won 5 gold, 2 silver and a bronze in the Paralympic World Swimming Titles in South Africa and has broken his world records a total of 19 times

Great nomination. Not my sportsperson of the year but worthy of a mention. However, what is disgraceful is that he didn't get a nomination for Swimmer of the Year. I don't begrudge Leisel for her win nor some of the other nominations but Cowdrey was the outstanding male swimmer of the year, without question. Right now, he'd be a bigger star than Thorpey if he was an able bodied athlete. As it stands, even his outstanding record (highlighted above by RG) isn't enough to warrant a nomination for Swimmer of the Year. Here's a tip Swimming Australia - don't bother with athletes with disabilities if you consider their performances to be this unimportant.

agree 100% POBT - i thought it was crazy for him not to be nominated too

he is said to be the face of the Paralympics ala Louise Savage and should get more praise than what hes recieving now

That will change as he stated that he wants to try out for the next Olympic team after 2007 and if he wasn't competing in the World Titles this year he did qualify for the Brisie national titles in the 50 fly and would of raced alonside Matt Welsh and co.

Greatest Moment of 2006: Australia winning the Ashes.

Worst Moment of 2006: Browny getting injured.

Funniest Moment of 2006: Jimmy Bartels shot at goal vs. Collingwood.

Moment of 2006 that you needed anger management classes for:

Cruelest Moment of 2006:
My cat getting put down.

Comeback of 2006
WCE vs. Geelong.

Best sports person of 2006
Ricky Ponting

Greatest moment of 2006: Has to be the entire Football World Cup. I was never really much of a fan, but i will never forget the game against Croatia (especially).

Worst moment of 2006: Floyd Landis in the Tour de France. Being a huge supporter and follower of the race (i.e. staying up every night to watch every stage), his disqualification felt like he cheated me personally. It is one of the great sporting events on the world calender, but i fear for it's existance. For those that saw Landis' comeback up the mountain, you will feel as robbed as i do after dscovering he tested positive. He would easily win "comeback of the year" if he wasn't a cheating scumbag.

Funniest moment of 2006: The "sirengate" fiasco in the AFL or Dizzy's 201 against Bangladesh.

Cruelest moment of 2006: Being forced to watch Brisbane vs Carlton. Also Vossy retiring after this year (he deserved to go out on a high), and Mal Michael's dog act.

Comeback of 2006: SoO game III (Lockyer's try). QUEENSLANDER!!! Probably unlucky not to get sporting moment of 2006. As a die-hard Queenslander, that was the most satisfying win of the year. Never write off a Queenslander.

Honorable mention: Geoff Oglivy winning the US Open after Mickleson held a 2 stroke lead with a couple of holes to play. Although, this was less of a comeback as it was Mickleson choking yet again.

Best sports person of 2006: Plenty of contenders: Ricky Ponting, Lane Beachley, Oglivy, Roger Federer (again), and Darren Lockyer.

I'll probably remember more to add as others point them out. Great idea for a thread RG. :thumbsu:

Funniest Moment of 2006: The Barmy Army having to watch Dad's Army smash their team

Moment of 2006 that u needed anger management classes for:

Cruelest Moment of 2006: Hadley's injury. Here's hpoing injury free 2007.

Comeback of 2006: Eagles vs Geelong. What a choke!

Best sports person of 2006: M. Voss (last time I can say this)
