Even though I'm disappointed we lost to a team I expect to beat, I look at the reasons we lost the game and they are short term problems. The amount of shocking short kicks(under no pressure) out of defence which were marked by Carlton forwards within 50m were by players you would never expect. Players can be rusty in the first game and I wouldn't expect these players to make these mistakes, especially a handfull of players in the one game like last night. Carlton really should have only had about 20 behinds(a dozen of those were rushed also). Another problem last night was our fitness in the 2nd half. Our fitness will only improve each game. The possesion count last night was that of a team who hasn't played a competitive game for 6 months. We will become more longer and direct each week and cut the handball count down. After a disappointing effort by Moore in the first quarter to not go for a mark and allow Walker to goal, he came good and showed some great promise with an excellent mark in the 2nd quarter. He has a great leap and I look forward to see how he goes in the following weeks. Mcguane has shown something too and he should improve his reading of the ball in defence with experience. Howat was very good last night too and could be a midfield option. I expect Terry to organise our defensive kick in a bit better after last night. The players were too scattered and stationary to provide a good leading option within the Carlton zone. Let's hope they start leading from the centre of the 50m arc from now on. From now on I think Polo should be our number 1 tagger. The way our club rates Johnson is a liability for our team. I can garauntee that Polo would have would have been the difference in winning and losing if he tagged Stevens all game. I look forward to improvement and hopefully a win next week. I expect a competitive effort
