This is a good one. Pedos now are viewed with a pretty similar disdain as gays have in the past.

I guess the big difference is that in the past pedophilia was more accepted and is becoming less accepted - where homosexuality is moving in the other direction.

This is the other thought i had today.....the complete opposite happens globally.....as these kinds of things happen cyclically.....where humanity becomes even more repressed by religion and tribalism, etc. In the next 100 years, reverting back around the circle. Sexual repression, etc. etc.

But i dunno what it is exactly, deep in my bones i have always felt religion itself would run it's course....like say, another World War, over religion, jihadists getting their way for a global war, more senseless slaughtering of tens or hundreds of millions, eventually forces humanity's hand.

They're not comparable, but there is a sizeable pro-pedophile out there who seek to normalise adult-child attraction. They identify closely with the gay rights movements of the past, seeing them as inspiration and an example of the way they can eventually gain acceptance.

For example, from the mission statement on one website: we will strive to establish full democratic rights for all persons, who are different age attracted, so as to secure for these individuals the same full legal protection from harrassment due to sexual orientation that is enjoyed by other minorities and to openly work for the establishment of our rights by educational and political means without fear of reprisal.

Will it ever happen? I hope not, and I doubt it - but it's not so long ago that the same would have been said about homosexuality.

I think the western world will slowly lessen its dependence on oil. Big result of this will be the Middle East turning into a relative wild jungle / wasteland, basically "tribes" running around chopping each others heads off and sacrificing their children. We won't even hear about it as we'll have zero interest in the place.

I think attempts by China to broaden its borders is possible, as its people become richer and want more.

We'll eat less and food will be genitically designed to deliver nutrition due to food security issues.

Concern for the environment will depend on economic conditions - people don't worry about it if they're too busy looking for food and shelter.

Changes to political systems in western democracies as people realise the two party system doesn't serve their interests. Still democratic I think, but perhaps a move toward something genuinely representative.

If we don't have wealth taxes than inheritors aren't paying their weight, in fact they are paying zero weight, even if we do close the tax loop holes. Income earners are paying above their weight at the moment and this will change with time.

As a basic point level, I completely agree.

On another level what is the big difference between someone being 15 years and 364 days old, and somebody being 16 years and 0 days old? Consent is consent. Is age alone enough to determine whether somebody is mature enough to gove that consent?
Are some 13 year olds more capable of giving consent than some 19 year olds? (This is a purely hypothetical extreme, I am not advocating that it is OK for 13 year to be deemed sexually desirable by adults.)

I guess I'm not arguing that pedophilia is right, but questioning the grounds for determining right and wrong.

Outlaw? Goodness me. This is a strange point of view, given the institutionalisation of faith and the abuse of power is predominantly why people have a problem with it in the first place.

This is coming from someone with little interest in religion, but I hope it never dies. Faith is a wonderful thing. I hope that one day we live in a world where people will care less about literal interpretations of text and more about caring for and loving one another. You know, like how Jesus actually intended for us to live. The existentialist crisis will likely never be solved, so whose business is it what people believe will happen to them post-death?

Abandoning and outlawing are very different things.

Actually, outlawing tends to occur when people in charge want people to abandon something and they refuse. So I suppose outlawing is the more likely of the two - not that it will actually have much effect.
