What about this UGANDAN lad Emmanuel Irra

Not eligible until next year as far as i know, buti could well be wrong

Definately should take a mid with our 1st pick and if Renshaw from North is still available when we have our 2nd pick we should take him. He can play ruck and forward and is still growing.
Does any one know what's going on with Stefan Jarman?
Is he injured or playing school footy instead of with North's under 18s?

Just in summary:

Josh Simpson, Emmanuel Irra, Brodie Grundy, Ben Kennedy are all 2012 Draft eligible. Despite all of the huffing and puffing about Adelaide getting Kennedy via the GWS mini draft, it won't happen. He will need a monster 2nd half of the year to be considered here.

Kyall Renshaw - no thanks

Stefan Jarman - seen him play 3 times, will be lucky to stay with North, will end up playing for Gaza in the SAAFL most probably

Toby Greene - great worker, a lot of promise

No point tanking for Chad Wingard, won't get pass 3rd overall and GWS.

Care to explain why your so against Renshaw. Every time I've seen him on the under 18s highlights package on ABC he's looked promising.

Not a modern day ruck, lacks agility and doesn't cover the ground.

with the way Richmond are travelling, wouldn't be surprised if the Crows somehow end up higher than them as well. Realistically, we'd be looking at pick 10 or 12...unless, we start trialling some of our untried players (Riley, Lyons), which i wouldn't mind seeing, considering season is beyond over.

Reading a bit more in the last few days it seems the 2012 draft is the one to have some free space on the list some real talent and going pretty deep.

Sooooo maybe such a big clean out isn't warrented this year. Take our three delistings and save some spots for the year after...once more our timing to be at the wrong end of the ladder has been exceptional...not.

Now this one is from far left field but...would we consider trading out Rutten?

He is our full-back of the decade, a club leader, an All Australian, in our best three players and one of the best FBs in the comp. He also has a max of 1-2 years left in him and it is clear we won't be contending in that time and he plays a role (key back) in which we have some depth. If he wanted a shot at a flag what might we be able to get from a Hawthorn, Carlton or maybe even North or Richmond who you could say are all in need of key defenders.

If we could snag a top ten pick would we take that?

I wouldn't make the same suggestion WRT Scotty Thompson as we're clearly thin for midfielders and need his strength to get us through this period. Johncock (running small defender) is probably another one that you could make a case for considering a trade whilst his value is high (for the right club).

Thoughts?

If we decide we need a rebuild then yes for sure, but you know we won't do it.

Our timing has indeed been exceptional. We've missed the finals 3 times this decade - 2004, 2010 & 2011.

2004 - 3 teams qualify for a 1st round PP. Our pick slides from #5 (Franklin) to #8 (Meesen).

2010 - Very good draft, but GC draft concessions rip the guts out of it - we trade to the point where we only have 2 selections (plus our rookie upgrades).

2011 - Weak draft before GWS draft concessions rip what little strength there is out of it. I'd be surprised if we have more than 3 picks (plus our upgrades), even though we have a list of rejects as long as your arm.

**** I didn't know that about Franklin.

That's my thoughts too Vader:thumbsu:. Stevens, Cook and poss 2-3 more to allow for some upgrades from the RL.

Then maybe only the best two mids we can get our hands on and possibly RL some 22-24 year old ready made mids from the State Leagues. 2012 cut the spuds who aren't going to take us to the next flag and go deep into the draft. Have to be smart and make the most of a pooh situation. Sure Matty R is all over it....I hope.:D

hey neddy did you go to the last champ games. few mids starting to emerge that i hope port pick up before the crows, dyson/ kavanagh seem high in quayles eyes. will be spewing if we pick up the best flanker mid though lol, although you will probably pass on tyson anyway for some 192cm prototype runner.

Yeah mate was there. Tyson and Cavanagh certainly are going to be around the mark. Quality kids.

Very impressed with Grigg and mckenzie from the two games i saw from the championships. Both left footers who can deliver bullett like passes and find plenty of the ball. Grigg may be gone before our pick but i feel Brad McKenzie is the sort of player Rendell would be looking at for our pick.

Other players i liked were Dom Tyson, hoskin-elliott, Sumner and Taylor Adams from the championships. Sounds like Kavanagh is a talented player too but he didn't play in the championships.

On topic;
You would have to wonder whether the AFC would give any consideration to Amos Frank and any other indigineous players from the communities they are supporting. Amos broke the sprint record at the club and from memory of the article won the best and fairest although only playing for Fregon, but it would be great to see some of these excitement machines at least come down and play at SANFL level.

Read somewhere...I think it was the Hound's article in the Radvertizer that Bunji coaches the Boomerangs. Just checked it on the AFL site...surely he would be speaking to Rendell about some of the indigenous kids and who would be a fit for the crows. Still hoping we can find that small crumbing forward out we need in the next few seasons.

Also in the tizer today was a rehash of the article in the Sun. Does say that Rendell isn't fazed by the thinness of this years draft and I have a sneaking suspision we could see another mature age rook this year.

Could we make a list of who in the SANFL would be worth a shot. Thinking of the Legs you would think Pfieffer would be worth another shot oh and that Walker kid...he'd make a good forward.;)

Just saw the mature age recruit thread...will head over there.

Definately need to target midfielders, but I'm sick of the 'tall, athletic' mould. I want a mid with footy smarts and great skills. We have enough of the athletic prospects, let's get some good footballers in there now.

I agree with the above, however, the wild card will be trade week - when we find out (i) who is going to GWS abd (ii) who else wants out of the club.
I suspect there are a few, particularly if the current coaching regime remain.
