We had better have something spectacular planned for our draft picks...
Honestly, at what point does this become intentional sabotage?
If Matt Rendall is right it wouldn't matter if we offered up draft picks."GWS don't want another pick," Rendell said.

What I got from this was that we'll still put in an offer, but the realistic expectations of actually achieving a spot is impossible in Adelaide's eyes. Personally, if Adelaide do miraculously get a spot, we'll go for Kennedy to fill a need. But, I believe GWS is only use 2 maybe 3 spots, and those spots will be taken by top echelon players such as #1 O'Maera, #2Garlett, #3 Possibly Grundy.
I have no doubt though, unless something drastically changes, we'll be gunning for Kennedy in the proper 2012 draft, so not all is lost.
Now to this years draft, my preferences for our picks would go as followed (presuming Vince leaves to a Essendon for instance, which seems fairly likely atm, receiving a Rd1 pick in return (late teens))
RD1, Pick 1, 8-12: Mitch Grigg - may go earlier, but if available, he is a must take. Everything we need in a player, regardless if he is viewed as a tad slow.
RD1, Pick 2, 15-20: Brad MacKenzie - another SA boy. Will be a quality mid, who will be valuable floating across half back on occassion. Pretty nice long boot.
^^ Both leftfooters ^^
RD2, Pick 1, Late 20's-Early 30's: Josh Waldhunter most likely, but I'd prefer Lachie Neale, but we could easily get Neale later on if we're lucky
Oh gee, what a shock.
As if we were ever going to give it a crack.
Sorry, but I knew this day one.![]()
You underestimate our tactics. Kennedy is not expected to go in the first two in the 2012 draft and we will have a very early pick.

so we are keeping Neil around to ensure we snare Kennedy in the 2012 draft? genius! hehe![]()

Absolutely. The price they were asking may indeed be too high.Has anyone stopped to think what these 17yo kids are actually worth - and what we would be asked to give up for them?
I suspect the asking price is >>> the value, hence the club has sensibly walked away shaking their heads and muttering about GWS not being kind enough to use the KY jelly first.
I, for one, think that it is lunacy to consider losing Vince + a compensation pick, or Vince + our 1st round pick, for a kid who is probably still going to be available at our 1st selection next year anyway. Doubly so when you consider that he can't even play in 2012 anyway.
Lets just wait and see who gets traded and what price the clubs are prepared to pay for them.Absolutely. The price they were asking may indeed be too high.
Unless another club swoops in and takes him. If that happens then there should be hell to pay.
Kennedy is not worth Vince + a 1st round selection (compo or otherwise).
Adelaide made an informal approach to GWS about the classy ball winner, but walked away from the conversation doubting they would be willing pay the Giants' hefty asking price.
In fact, the Crows deemed a deal with GWS to be so unlikely they decided against submitting a list of players of interest to the AFL by the July 1 deadline.
It's understood Adelaide wasn't the only club not to do so.
Despite not lodging a list with the League, the Crows are still able to bid for one of the Giants' concessionary selections.
However, football operations manager Phil Harper said the club was realistic about the chances of any potential bid being successful.
"We're just not confident we'd be able to get a deal done, having talked to [GWS}," Harper told afl.com.au.
"You've got to be careful what you're paying out for a guy, who can't even play next year.
"Unless it's a really super-good deal, GWS aren't interested and unless it's a really super-good deal for us, we're probably not interested either.
"It probably won't happen, I don’t think."
If PO is correct (and I think they're on the money), then this is a very high price to pay for a 17yo kid who won't even be able to play for the club in 2012.Rendell's probably right but you'd expect GWS will still be super keen on all the compo picks in the system as they could use them in next year's draft. I'd expect a first round compo pick plus a decent player to get any club into the mini draft.
Nothing to do with Adelaide, but this Brisbane supporter doesn't want his club paying "overs" either...I hope Brisbane doesn't take part in this underage player draft. We can't afford to pay anything even close to overs in a trade for quite a few years (thanks fev). I doubt there are any players that GWS would be interested in on our list that we would regard as tradeable anyway.
Interesting that Adelaide are not the only club who have laughed at GWS' intransigence.
Comments on the D&T Board indicate that we may have made the right decision:

I was just curious to see what the opinions were on the D&T board, from people who don't have the vested interests that we do. Was the general consensus that we made the right decision, or do they general public think that we're idiots for overlooking an opportunity?Awesome win, Vader. Some bloke called Gibbo has a similar opinion to you. Congrats![]()

Turns out that there haven't been many posts on the subject yet, but there are none yet which suggest that Adelaide got it wrong.
It's only people on here, who are obsessed with shiny new toys, who are throwing tantys and saying that Adelaide have blundered massively as usual. Most people elsewhere don't see the point in paying $200 for something valued at closer to $120, which is what many BigFooty Adelaide fans seem keen on doing (or at least are unhappy that the club isn't).
