Re: What can we hope for with pick 10?

Here is the order for the first 18 draft picks.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/122666/default.aspx

Lets hope we can get a gun midfielder with pick 10. Please pick a natural footballer and not an athlete. You cant buy football nous. You cant teach instinct. You either have it or you dont. We have enough athletes.

Theres a few gun midfielders like Will Hoskin-Elliot and Dom Tyson, but I'm expecting them to be taken before #10. We'd be hoping for someone like Mitchell Grigg. He could go to Port at #6, but I'm expecting him to be available if Port do not pick him up. Elliot Kavanagh is another one, and he has a higher roof aswell but seems to be developing a bit of an injury history which may be worrying. If he works out, he could easily be top 5 from this draft. Kavanagh is someone we should look for if we manage to trade for a pick like 12-18, but Grigg should be our main guy.

Re: What can we hope for with pick 10?

You'd have to think Grigg to PAPs now they've slipped out to 6.

Re: What can we hope for with pick 10?

We should be looking at trading it or/with our comp pick to GWS for a mini draft pick. There's no upside to the draft this year and pick 10 is more like pick 20 in a normal year. Whoever we draft with it will be saddled with the expectation of a top 10 pick and no matter what they do over will end up as this boards new whipping boy once Reilly retires.

Incorrect. This draft is like any other draft in the sense the top 20-25 is fairly strong then tapers off severely. So really, a top 10 pick in this draft is like a top 10 in any other draft. Also, it would be unlikely we could work the pick into the mini draft as GWS has openly said they'd prefer players over picks. The only exception to that I think would be the compensation picks as it could be used later on.

What do you guys think of ADEL: Tippett + Pick #10 ---> GCS: Pick #4.
Tippett, from all reports, would most likely be gone in 2012 for some cheap 2nd rounder and 3rd rounder. So the question would be; 2nd Rounder, 3rd Rounder and #10 (Most likely Grigg)
or;
Most likely Chad Wingard with pick #4 who would be everything Grigg would be except faster, more disciplined, courageous, X-factor, and far more upside.

Can we still work out a way to get Day? Or Tippett and second round for that pick.

Actually, looking at that, giving up Tippett to move six places in the draft is a terrible deal for us.

Yeah I know, perhaps if Gold Coast through in a late first round compensation pick aswell or something. My initial thoughts for that trade were purely based on the supposed out clause in Tippett's contract. But yeah, if someone this could work out, it would be pretty fair.

#10 + Tippett ---- #4 + 3rd Band Compo Pick

'sup.

Why bother moving up 6 places and get a compo pick for someone that may decide to stay with Adelaide the following year?

Madness....

Re: What can we hope for with pick 10?

Just for starters....

Hopefully a footballer not an athlete!!!

Hopefully someone with elite foot skills unlike the majority of our more recent draftees!!

Hopefully someone that has good decision making skills unlike far too many on our present list!!!

Hopefully someone that will put their head over the pill unlike some of the soft c*cks on our present list!!

Preferably a S.A. youngster so we can factor out the "go home" principle!!!

The top 4 this year (Patton, Conigilio, Tyson, Wingard) are a gulf apart from the other draftees. If we nabbed one of them, we would literally have a potential brownlow medalist on our hands, or simply an amazing 200+ game player on our hands. I'm only throwing these trade scenarios out there as a possibility though.

New coach and system next season you would think Tippett will have more upside at the end of 2012....IF he wanted to go at the end of that time well we would still get possibly around pick 6 as that is about how many games GCS will win next year.

Tippett said he would like to end back on the Gold Coast...didn't say at the end of 2012 just not live in Adelaide for ever. Sam Day has proven absolutely nothing yet and with the amount of other young KPP the Coast have they are not going to be able to keep all of them.

It needs to be up to the incoming coach to sell his vision to Tipp to keep him here for when we make our tilt in a couple of seasons. We need mids and drafting for Day is just a waste at this stage. If we could get say Wingard or someone of his ilk then maybe...

It is a bit of a worry though if news about his contract is true, and we do wait to the end of 2012. He might just as well be worth a top 10 pick, but (correct me if I'm wrong on the supposed parameters of the contract) if we wait, he could just wait to the end of his contract, choose GCS as his destination, and leave in a jiffy with only a 2nd and 3rd rounder left in his wake. It'll probably all result in hogwash as it was Caro who wrote it, but I'm the kind of guy who likes to see the "what ifs" of situations. Bit of a burden really :o

Re: What can we hope for with pick 10?

Dont care what position, but for godsake pick a footballer, not an athlete and NOBODY that has dodgy injury concerns! Cant stand these kids we seem to pick up that have spaghetti hamstrings!

Re: What can we hope for with pick 10?

I, like most others, want an explosive mid. However, I think we may go KPD given the loss of Bock and Davis and Truck slowing down.

I would not be surprised at all if we end up drafting someone like Michael Talia

Christ no. A least we have some reasonable KPD, and you only need three or four. You need a dozen quality midfielders and we have maybe three.

Re: What can we hope for with pick 10?

Michael Talia has questional disposal. Daniel has questional disposal. Do we want more? Despite our losses of KPD we need quality mids with good pace, skills and disposal. (Footballer, with nous)

If Micael is there with third pick we could take him there.

The guy I like is Devon Smith. Short, very quick, silky type of player. Similar to Ben Kennedy but won't cost us anywhere near as much.
More similar to Luke Dalhaus. Neither of those two have near the natural footballing talent of Kennedy.

He's a little goer though and has a quick burst of pace and neat-ish hands.

Our first two picks have to be mids, at least 2 of our rookie list need to be mids maybe even some ready made SANFL, VFL or WAFL mature mids. We have enough KPP to cover at the moment

Katrina Gill has just tweeted that AFL will announce GWS compensation for Philthy Davis shortly after he has 'officially' signed with GWS, which should happen rather soon.

Stay tuned kids!

Better be band two.

So GWS have actually met with Phil now have they?

One to keep an eye on is Lachlan Neale from Glenelg. Very smart footballer and although small, I know Rendell rates him.
Wouldn't surprise to see us pick him late or hope for a rookie spot.
He's small, but solid and good aerobically. He could be a Mitchell type.
