Wouldn't mind us picking up Jack Hanath with a late pick or in the rookie draft.
200cm, mobile and is a long kick.

Suckling was very impressive today. Read the play well, used the ball beautifully.

You'd have to think that he will get drafted this year. I wouldn't mind having him at the Crows.

I'd rather draft Shane Tuck than Allan
Why is that? I've never seen him play so all I've got to go off are stats but this guy is a ball magnet that managed to average 33 touches a game this season! I can only assume he butches the ball quite a bit for you to say something like that?

Just a bad decision-maker and poor, short disposal. As much as he gets his hands on it, he hurts your team going back the other way.

As noted on Chris25 phantom draft, James Allen would be lucky to be drafted. Could be a chance for a rookie spot, but at just 171cm and no outstanding attributes, it would be unlikely.

Players like Liddle, Suckling, Thomas and Pfeiffer have better chances of getting drafted.
I would love the Crows to pick up someone like Suckling or Pfeiffer with a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Well looking at the great teams in the AFL and now looking closely at Central it's very clear to be successful you need tough players and highly skilled/reliable kickers.

IMO we should use our first 2 or 3 picks on best available youngsters, but after that we need to select ready made skillful and big bodied mature agers (in national draft and rookie draft).

I would like us to look especially at (in any order);

Matt Suckling (Norwood) - number 1 clearance player in SANFL, big bodied and has pretty neat skills.

Brayden O'hara (Central) - Silky skilled left foot kick with a real football brain.

Lee Spurr (Central) - running half back/medium defender with good skills and loves to provide run with reasonable speed.

Darren Pfeiffer (Norwood) - unlikely to recruit him again considering we delisted him, but racks up the possessions, is great at contested ball, very attacking and skills are ok (not as good as the others above).

Then there are a few others who arent big bodied but still have good skills as well as other qualities;

Nick Liddle (South) - pacy midfielder at SANFL level but would play as a small forward at AFL level. Lively player with reasonable skills.

Lachie Neale (Glenelg) - isn't mature aged (18 yrs old) but is playing league for Glenelg. Highly skilled smart midfielder/half back.

Luke Brown (Norwood) - similar to Neale. He's a quick skillful midfielder/half back/half forward. Will get drafted this year.

Goldsworthy (WWT) - a skillful left footed midfielder/small forward who moves well and can be dangerous (similar to Matthew Stokes imo).

Pending trades/delistings we could possibly bring in about 8 players through national & rookie drafts. I think we should use half of them on 18yr old draftees and the rest on mature agers.

We are a very young side (even younger now that we keep losing established players). We can afford to bring in some mature agers whilst loading up on 18 yr old draftees in the super draft next year.

Given that there is more emphasis on kicking over handball, we need to inject some ready made skillful players and along with Callinan we could 'spike' with some mature agers making an impact.

We'll probably need another developing ruckman and tall utility as well.

How old are suckling and Pfeiffer?Mid 20's?

Pfeiffer is 24 or will turn 24 in a couple of days.

He was drafted by us in the same year as Richard Douglas. Douglas was pick 16 and Pfeiffer was pick 17 (pick we got for Fergus Watts)

You would think so. They would definetly be better options than Cook, Symes and Schmidt.

The bar is set pretty low there. As long as we are burning our 3rd/4th rounders or rookie picks on them, then I'm happy.

Pick 50 in a shallow draft is nothing. Much better picking up a quality player in the state comp, than gambling on a 18 year old in a draft with very little depth.

Luke Brown is already a lock to the GWS I believe. We'll probably need to trade with GWS to get those players. If they are as generous as GC were trading those concessions, then its worth a look.

Matt Suckling (Norwood) - number 1 clearance player in SANFL, big bodied and has pretty neat skills.

I'd pull the trigger with a late pick. He would probably already be on an AFL list if it wasn't for an ACL and OP earlier on.

Pfeiffer will probably get taken by the GWS, but I don't mind the whole Armstrong to GWS for Pfeiffer idea.

Given how average the draft is, would Suckling still be there for a late pick? First season in the SANFL and he has been standout midfielder.

I see James Allan won his third Magarey medal this year, what do we think the chances are of us drafting him are? Currently 26 so he is a bit old but at the same time could have another strong 4-6 years ahead of him and would instantly improve our side and hopefully help develop some of the guys in the side (with him taking more of the attention). Thoughts?

Give him another couple of years and then we'll pick him up.

No, he is eligible next year. Has already been talked about as a possible top 10 pick next year. I would be very keen on picking him up if we can.

Other players from the sanfl i would look at would be almond, goldsworthy, ainger.

Toumpas has nominated for that mini-draft as a 17 year old thing for this year. So how can the Crows get him from that? He is a gun. Haven't been more impressed from a player playing his first few league games. Good size for a midfielder, good pace, fantastic skills.

As I understand it although he has nominated it is only if he is picked as one of the 4 GWS rookie mini-draft picks that he is in with a trade chance this year. Otherwise he has to wait until next years 2012 superdraft.

I love the look of these two. Maybe O'Hara too. Not too interested in Pfeiffer or the others you mentioned.

And how about Paul Thomas from Centrals. A great player but does he have anything to offer at AFL level and is he too old now?

Also, bringing the conversation over from the Ayers thread, what does everyone think about Shane Valenti?

Was very unlucky to be delisted by Melbourne and has since won the last two JJ Liston Medals for the best player in the VFL. Was part of the undefeated premiership team.

And to bring up an old chestnut, thoughts on Myles Sewell?

I'd be happy to have both of them here at the Crows.

Valenti is a gun. He's around 25/26 now though I think, he was actually decent for Melbourne and was really surprised when he got delisted. He's a tad small though and lacks footspeed for a smaller mid, reminds me of a poor mans Marc Murphy. Hes not slow, but he's not exactly dynamic for a smaller midfielder. He's got a bit about him though, GWS should look at him along with Patrick Rose.

No for Valenti and Sewell.

Patty Rose is an interesting one. I played juniors with Patty for about 5 years and am really happy to see him successful, at leatst at VFL level, but he's not got the size or engine for AFL midfield rotation and plays more like a FF than a SF. Sort of an enigma, but may still deserve a shot.
