Impressed with Jimmy Toumpas after watching the eagles today.

Anyone have any more info on him?

How good is that lad?
Does anyone have any more information about him?

Have not seen many Eagles games this year..... About 15 mins in the first quarter, I asked my mate with a budget, who is this number 2 for the Eagles?
Toumpas? Never heard of him... How old? 17:eek:

His pace, poise and skill made him stand out amongst everyone....

What about Andrew Ainger from South Adelaide yesterday.

At the moment, he looks raw but he showed he had some talent, nice hands, feet and movement for a tall lad.

He would worth a rookie listing.

Toumpas will not go mini-draft this year. He is not at that level.

2012 Draft for him.

For the Brayden O'Hara fans who yearly put his name up, what has he done this year that will finally see him drafted? If he is getting over-looked every year, then it must be for a reason?

As for Suckling, isn't exactly a solid character and is limited on what he can do and where he can play. Pass.

Ordinary SANFL player at his best... Struggles to read the play and have never seen him time a lead.. If you drop it on his head one on one he is hard to beat but if it hits the ground, he is gone....

He might look ok on tv, in real life he moves like a wounded giraffe

Re O'Hara, perhaps it's a realisation that the game is changing perhaps towards his strengths (precise kicking, specialised spots for the shorter bloke over the tweener athlete) rather than him suddenly changing. You would know him better but i would've thought his negatives are height and pace but still finds it, is a goer for his size and kicks beautifully. Put it this way, I'd drop Armstrong for O'Hara in an instant.

You obviously watch the potential draftees closer than most, who do you think Rendell should short list to watch very closely for draft day? (i realise you've probably said somewhere in the past 27 pages but I'm taking the lazy option of asking for a repeat!)

No for Valenti and Sewell.

Patty Rose is an interesting one. I played juniors with Patty for about 5 years and am really happy to see him successful, at leatst at VFL level, but he's not got the size or engine for AFL midfield rotation and plays more like a FF than a SF. Sort of an enigma, but may still deserve a shot.

Yeah, he's a similar player to Porps actually. Not the quickest/dynamic bloke but is pretty strong in the core and just knows where the goals are and has very good skills. Accurate kick. He's had 1 shot already but didn't really grab it, I think a club like GWS/GC would definitely have a look or even one of the premiership contenders would look at him to add depth in their list.

Watching yesterdays 2 finals, Brown is the one to get from GWS
and as I have said earlier Ahamed Saad from the Nth Bullants I would
seriously look at him :thumbsu:

absolutely. Based on the little I have seen of him, he look as likely a prospect as any in the second tier comps.

Saad's likely going to GWS as a pre-selection.....not sure if he'll be traded. But I'm worried about his hands and lack of left side.

Cheers Freddy.

You're right, only saw him on the TV.

I'd like you to expand on this comment a bit more....

Anyone know anything about Aaron Elari? Was one guy I was hoping we would pick up with a rookie spot for the small forward role. Granted this was mostly based on highlights/BF hype but keen to know where he is at this year.

?.

Still waiting to hear those comments on Suckling expanded upon but won't expect them to, as what you've said is crap!

Agree Neddy, thats a pretty big slur to throw without explaining yourself

I gather you are talking about Sam Rowe....

I would also like to hear his explanation regarding Toumpus and why he isnt up to standard... He looked like a Rolls Royce on Sunday in just his 2nd game. And got 2nd best and sparked the Eagles in the 3rd term???

one thing ive noticed about neddy is his posting style... swoop in, drop a bombshell, and disappear into the night...:D

I liken neddy to batman or something. He will be back.

No his character assination of Suckling.

For those who don't already know the AFL has put together highlights packages of some of the prospects. Probably those that would be worth watching from an AFC standpoint are:
Liam Sumner
Will Hoskin-Elliot
Toby Greene
Hayden Crozier
Devon Smith
Matthew Buntine
Chad Wingard (in case the Tippett trade happens...)
Josh Waldhuter (smokey 1st round pick, seriously worth a look)
Mitchell Grigg

There is probably a few others that I missed out on but those are the main players that we could target. Would be very surprised if we don't pick up at least 1-2 of the names listed (depending on trades etc.)

Waldhuter is definately worth looking at in the 1st round if we can get another 1st round pick . Past couple of years he's being playing reserves footy for Centrals and unders 18s plus made his senior debut for the Doggies this season.

I agree. If we keep our pick 10 and get either pick 17 or 18 (Gunston trade) then we should definitely check him out. There is also reasonable possibility that he could slip into the second round so I would be willing to take a risk that he falls. Ideally, we might be able to get 2 first round picks (e.g. Pick 10- Sumner, Pick 18- Grigg) and 2-3 second round picks (ours plus picks from either the Maric or Armstrong trade) so we could take him in the second round. Overall, we might end up with 4-5 picks in the first 2 rounds so we need to be use this opportunity to draft wisely.

Thoughts on a few players from SA:

Grigg - I do like him, he is a very strong clearance player with a nice kick on him. Doesn't always utilise it as much as he should however. Dominates SANFL reserves but needs attitude correcting to succeed at a higher level. No doubt has the attributes otherwise, good hands and a reasonable mark. Only question I have is how well he may fit in at AFL level. Could end up as a moderately good midfielder only but if things fix up then raise the bar and will become a good solid AFL midfielder who wins his own ball and then uses it afterwards.

Forster - Light-weight atm, but is definitely primed to play AFL. Good decision maker and smart footballer. In urgent need of the weights room, would have to play flanks and outside to begin with because he'd get hammered in the physical department. Has a good DE% in SANFL reserves and has played some good games there. Played ok at league level and doesn't look out of his depth. Solid overhead mark and reads the ball coming into defence well. Would need to add weight as mentioned but once he does has the right height to become that ultility half-back wingman who can be swung around to fit the team role. Has leadership potential.

Toumpas - Too young for this year but he's got a lot of footballing talent. Chopped up Under 18's from the games I have seen, chopped up reserves and then at league level in finals has not looked out of his depth (as of yet). Lovely kick, at times he kicks with good penetration, usually gained by him delivering the ball at pace when running. Is an above average run and carry type of player, you'll gain more metres with the ball in his hand. Loves to attack and is good overhead but not terrific. Finds space, that's prob his best attribute, knows where to run and runs well and has some pace but is by no means electric quick. Plays a similar game to Wellingham from the pies.

Spurr - I do like him, has been a rock for Central across half-back over the past few years. Strong overhead and a strong and penetrating kick. Plays a style that is like Gram from St.Kilda, can take a mark, then take off and kick it long. Would be too good to see him stay at SANFL level and whilst he'll be no AFL star, he'd easily slot into many sides and play good AFL footy. Not blessed with true pace but I don't think he needs it to succeed.

O'Hara - Have always loved him as a player fro many years now, very consistent and strong off half-back. Reads the play very well and intercepts many balls, breaks away from packs, is often the one to receive the ball dished out and then uses his good left boot to use many times over. A tough and uncompromising competitor however he does have some deficiencies that people overlook. Firstly his kick is actually NOT that good. He does possess a lovely left boot when he is not rushed to kick and has a target to hit. Kicks it better than most but when under pressure his kicking is only average. Can suffer from kicking it too hard, does kick his fair share of floaters and has absolutely no right foot. That will hurt him when it comes to drafting. Doesn't get extreme power through his kicking often enough for it to be considered a serious weapon to be used. Draftable though, absolutely.

Suckling- No nonsense clearance machine, hard at em and wins the ball consistently under pressure and has good skills on the outside. Well above the SANFL level, could teach some of our players how to play the game. Strong inside/outside player, not a lot more to be said. Rarely goes missing in a game but accumulates possession at will. Not huge weapons as such like a big kick or pace that could suit AFL level but I think his clearance ability should be enough on it's own. Can't see him suited to any other role than a midfield specialist. But we'd have room for him, we don't exactly have that many specialists going around. Would like to see him rookied.

Waldhuter - Talented kid who hasn't really shown what he can do. feels like he plays within himself most weeks and skills at times have been hit and miss. He can kick it though, have seen him dob them from 60m. Feels like there is something inside that will come out once drafted. Creates good pressure around the contest and makes life for his man hard. I'd be all for drafting him to the crows as he does have solid improvement left in him.

Brown - Solid young player, clean and composed but does not possess in my eyes any majorly outstanding attributes. Just good in everything. Good overhead mark, good kick, good hands, good at finding space etc etc. Could do more given his age. But definitely worth AFL, by the time he is 23-24 should be a consistent AFL performer. 200game player.
