Jeez, WHE's speed, run and carry and his kicking skills were sexy as. Would definitely not mind him running alternative wings with McKay. :thumbsu:

I heard some goss that if true would make interstate team consider skipping Chad. Of course even if this is the case he could still be picked by poort.
.

If we got pick 4, there would be 0% chance of Port getting Wingard, I guarantee that.

But would Port select Wingard ahead of Longer? Surely their need for Longer is greater!

They would be so unbelievably pissed if that happened, this is another reason to draft him:D.

I like Grigg because he is the sort of draftee that could have an immediate impact in his first year due to his size and skill set (e.g. Rich). If we are going to aggressively trade to put us in a position to make finals next season (unlikely I know...) then he is the sort of player that we might go after. He will find it easier to get into games early at AFL level because he will have the strength to allow him to get into and stay the play (unlike Brodie Smith, that boy needs to hit the weights). However, I personally think that he could plateau after a few years in the AFL. Something about him reminds me of Brent Reilly when I watch him (solid-mediocre AFL player who never really improved after a few seasons). IMO, like Elliot Kavanagh (though not for the same reasons), he has real boom/bust potential. His strength, while useful against smaller bodies at junior level, hasn't allowed us to see enough of his skills and footy smarts. At this stage he has relied to much on his physical advantages which he won't have at AFL level (similar to Tom Hawkins as a junior). Wouldn't be against us getting him but only through using a second 1st round pick that we could hypothetically acquire in a trade (isn't worth pick 10 and will probably slip down into the late teens).

I'll be honest, I haven't seen much of the kid outside the Highlights videos, and I am definitely no expert, but he reminded me of Danger (with a better kick). Still not as silky as I would like, it's like his brain moves too quick for his body.

I'd love to pick up Sumner! Just looked all class.

Also Waldhuter or McKenzie if we get a pick around 18-20 mark for Gunston!

I don't know much about him beyond the "he's awesome" talk that goes on, but is there any concern that he'll just be too small for AFL level?

Not a leading question, I'm just honestly wondering.

Zero. 183 cm and 82 kg, which is pretty standard.

I haven't seen much of Wingard but is it me or were his highlights a bit unimpressive?? They were kinda like watching Brett Ebert hgihlights before he was drafted.

Grigg looked far more impressive.

He is a bit like Boomer in that he covers for it nicely with epic speed and cunning goal sense.

Those are only a few of his highlights, Grigg is slow and nonathletic. If it were not for his elite foot skills he'd be just a big bodied junior around pick 30-40. Wingard has huge talent, pin point passes, great speed, vertical jump, courage. I saw a play in the "eye catchers" videos by Kevin Sheehan where he was running laterally with two guys chasing him, then he does a shimmy, and jumps through the two of them, speeds off and nails a guy on the chest, leading, 35m away. It was kind of something you'd see Cyril do where you think "Jee, that was a bit risky doing that, but damn it was nice!"

I think he was asking after Kennedy, who at 174cm may well be a tad small, but geez he can play.

My mistake. Kennedy is 174 cm ATM but you have to think he will grow at least another 3-4 cms. Would be very surprised if he isn't at least 177cm by the time he's playing in 2013. Hypothetically, if he has a big growth spurt he could end up at around 180cm.

Would probably compare him more to Rioli but he is certainly capable of spending more time in the midfield if that is where we want to play him.

To those that have concerns about his size, Kennedy has the class to make up for any physical disadvantages. He reads the play like a book, exceptional speed, can win his own ball, can kick it onto a 5c piece and has remarkable goal sense. Capable of playing an outside mid role or as a specialist small forward. TBH he and Crouch might end up even better than O'Meara over the course of their AFL careers (big call I know).

The videos must not do him justice then.

Im sold on WHE after watching the highlights, are we any chance of getting him at our pick?

Unlikely to crack the top 10. His range is probably from Pick 10-15 so we should get a crack at him.

Interesting. I would've thought he was a lock for the 7-9 range.

I love Waldhunter's highlights. Especially the one where he tackles
But seriously, that kind of hardness lined up with Danger and Sloany will be intimidating.

Recruiters and more knowledgeable U18 followers have questioned this, yes.
