Apparently there has been some problems with the floor so it wouldn't surprise me if that was partly responsible for some of these amazing results

I would be more interested to see how he goes in the agility test because that seems to be a major area of concern. Regardless I don't think he warrants a top 10 pick. If we got something like pick 18 then we should have a look but picking Grigg at 10 wouldn't be the best option IMO. Even Waldhuter might be a better pick at 18 (greater ceiling)

They're only kids. People who have played league and AFL have full time jobs in the elite sports field of work. 14-16 is all you can expect.

No matter who you are, anything above 14 is pretty bloody good. 17-18 would be frigging insane, I doubt Weatherald got there and if he did, its because genetically he's an aerobic beast. I wouldn't hold any AFL player up to such a standard.

Not that the beep test really matters terribly, it is a purely aerobic test, where Aussie Rules is considered primarily an anaerobic sport, it involves high intensity efforts followed by brief periods of rest. Beep test is more of a constant effort with gradually increasing effort.

People who score higher than that at this age are the sort of people who go on to win the Tour de France; their aerobic capacity far exceeds that of any professional club footballer in any code of football, and they get spotted and make their way to the AIS at a much earlier age than the AFL draft combines.

Ahmed Saad is one of the stories of the #AFLCombine. Topped the 30m repeat & 20m sprints & was 2nd in the agility. He must get drafted.

MATURE-AGED prospect Ahmed Saad has increased his chances of being drafted by posting the equal fastest time in the sprint event at the NAB AFL Draft Combine this morning.

Saad, 22, plays for Northern Knights and this year won the Fothergill-Round Medal for the most promising VFL player.

His 2.86 seconds in the 20m event at Etihad Stadium was equal to the time of Claremont 17-year-old Shannon Taylor, who is eligible for trade by GWS.


Chad Wingard & Hayden Crozier were 1-2 in the running vertical leap. Mark of the year winners in the making right there.

Elliott Kavanagh topped the clean hands test with 28/30. Shane Nelson scored 29/30 to take 1st spot in kicking test.





Official #AFLCombine results are in and Brad Hill scored a 16.1 in the beep. Hoskin-Elliott didn't quite make his last turn & scored a 15.12.

10 others battered the 15.0 mark so some good athletes, are they good kicks though??

Along with Toby Greene, who I'm praying will make it to our pick 10, I'm hoping that we end up with some kind of late teens/early 20s pick from the Gunston trade, and we are able to snare Taylor Adams. Seems like a great kid - another Geelong Falcons boy (I have a soft spot for them ), good size, supposedly a natural-born leader, and a very natural footballer. Wins a lot of ball, tackles hard, I like the sound of him.

Of course I don't get to watch the TAC Cup pretty much ever so I can only go on what I read from people whose opinions I trust. Anyone who has seen a bit more of him want to give their opinion?

Saad will be pre-listed, though he may be on-traded.

No queries on his athletic abilities, never has been. Just quieries on his hands, ability to apply AFL level tackles (good tackler at VFL, but AFL strength?) and his left side. Good small forwards should have soft hands and be able to finish left and right.

Should easily make our Pick 10. Could go anywhere inside the top 20. Might slip a little because of his height (180cm).

Crozier is a real wild card. Would be better if we got another first pick and selected him with that IMO, hasn't shown enough to be pick 10 though he has one of the best "ceilings" in this draft.

I assume you've seen more of him than me. Again, I can only go by some replays and reports, but I didn't get a Douglas vibe from him. Natural footballer, good awareness, strong in tackles, hasn't tended to rely on pace in the juniors...
