have always struggled to warm to mckay in his role at the club - for a bloke who was one of my all-time faves on the field he just reeks of dullness - give me something macca - other than 1- 2 weeks - you'd have him first cab off the rank if ever you had to rent-a-crowd for a funeral - deadset

He will give you something Thy .... just not sure if his current qualifications cover extinct animals ;)

Looking forward to seeing some of our boys turn in to men.

Another pre-season in to our 3rd/4th year players like Weiters, Plow, Marchbank, Cuningham, McKay, Jack & Kerr should see some significant improvement.

Looking forward to seeing Garlett, Lang, MacReadie, Polson, McKay, Dow, O'Brien etc pushing for selection. Thomas, Kerridge, Levi and others will have to be at their very best to retain their positions which is a good thing for the club.

First time in a long time we appear to have depth in every position - just need games in to the boys and may the best man 'win' his position in round 1. Even blokes like Mullet, Shaw, O'Shea & Lobbe will push the group along; they have all been in the system a long time and will do everything to wing their place.

Add Crippa, Ed, Marchy, Lang, Kennedy (and possibly others) to our final 22 team of 2017 and there is a lot to look forward to (with Gibbs/Doc the only two significant outs).

Really looking forward to getting down to a few training sessions and pre-season games. Hoping to see a few surprise packets out there..

A bit late to the party but anyway...

1. What's your starting team for 2018
Fairly speculative and hopeful:
FB: March, Jones, Plow
HB: Simmo, Weits,Willo
C: Lang, Cripps,Samo
HF: Jack, Charlie, Garlett
FF: Wright, Harry, Pickett
FOL: Kreuzer, Murphy, Kennedy
Extended Bench: Ed, Fisher, Byrne, Cuningham, Dow, Polson, O’Brien
Ed and Fish make the cut plus 2 of the others.

2. Players whose should stocks should rise and whose stocks may fall.
Confident they’ll rise: Cripps, Charlie, Samo, March, Weit, Plow, Fish, Lang, Kennedy, Pickett, Garlett

Hoping no one really falls but rather others rise past them. Obviously there’s a few frequently mentioned elder statesmen and journeymen who may be subject here.

3. What do you think of the notion of Cripps spending more time playing forward.
I’d rather him spend as much time on the ball as possible which probably means he rests on the bench rather than in the forward line. He can have the occasional run up forward to change things up but I want him extracting, clearing and dominating from the middle.

4. Change of roles: Who is going to have a role change next year and why?
Nothing dramatic. Lang and Kennedy to play as genuine mids who rotate forwards rather than as pockets and flankers as they did at their previous clubs.

Expect more mid time for Samo, Fish, Cuningham, etc as they build their tank. We should have a fairly large group of players rotating between the midfield and forward line this year.

Plow, Simmo, March and Weit to have slight changes accomodating Doc’s absence. Reckon Plow could be the one who takes most of Doc’s job.

5. What are your thoughts on the likes of Thomas, Kerridge, Graham, Rowe and Lamb getting games?
Could see them all getting at least 1 Over the course of the year. Ranking likelihood (and number)of games I’d have Kerridge, Thomas, Lamb, Rowe/Graham. That’s pending any injuries, of course.

6. Who is going to kick most goals for the CFC in 2018?
Head say Levi even though I didn’t put him in my r1 team...
After (and ignoring) that:
Charlie 40
Wright 35
Harry 32
Jack 28
Pickett 20
Then hoping for a large contingent in the 10-20 range with Murph, Lang, Fisher, Samo, Garlett, Kennedy, Cripps, Cuningham, Polson, Dow, etc...

What are your concerns?
Gibbs, Doc, goal kicking and scoring, 4th quarters, number of talls, everything else...

1. Will the back-line function without Docherty?
It should manage (*touch wood*)
Plow to be instrumental for us this year. Simmo, Weits and March also sharing Doc’s role and workload. Perhaps Willo, Byrne, Garlett or someone else really comes on too.

2. How will our midfield perform without Gibbs? Who is going to step up and become part of the centre-square rotation?
2017 R23: Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murph, Samo with Boek and Fish on the wings, Thomas on a flank and Graham, Kerridge and Smedts on the bench.

Conceivable we could see this as changes:

Out: Gibbs, Boek, Thomas, Graham, Kerridge, Smedts

In: Cripps, Ed, Kennedy, Lang and 2 of Cuningham, Dow and Garlett.

That doesn’t read too bad to me...

3. Who is our next cab off the rank Ruck-man, should Kreuzer get injured? Is it going to be Lobbe or Phillips?
I’d give it to interesting Matthew Lobbe.

I cant be bothered putting any serious effort into my posts for many years so I'm not starting now. So I'll just post the following:

Mullett is in our best 22. If he's not in your team you need to think again. We need him to squash the small forwards.

Willo isn't best 22. He needs to either learn to man up and beat his opponent or get more of the ball. Preferably both. Love his aggression.

It should be obvious but Harry, Levi, Jack and Charlie can't function in the same forward line. You either need to throw one elsewhere or send one to the twos.

Lang will be in the team round 1. Whether he keeps that spot is up to him but he'll get his chance early.

Everyone loves a bargain but I don't get the Garlett love. I think he's a good pickup but people are putting him straight into the seniors and nominating him for the leadership group. I think he'll play five or six games later on in the year. More if he hits some real form.

I like the prospects of our attack for 2018. The loss of Docherty for the season and Gibbs hurts but the list isn't without players that have the ability to step up as well with an improving list of genuinely skilled youngsters.

I just hope McKay has better luck in 2018 with injury. The way he's looking now, he's a beast and the games he did play in 2017 there were promising signs. He's a key to our forward development if he stays fit and furthermore has a decent impact as players still improving like Curnow, Silvagni, SPS, Fisher, Cunningham and the likes of Wright, Garlett, Pickett will add further marking targets and genuine crumbing options for more scoring opportunities as well as forward pressure. Would be nice to see Weitering in the mix there as well if we have the luxury of releasing him from defence.

Having Ed Curnow back is a massive plus for us but we are very reliant on having neither Murphy or Cripps injured during the season. We have recruited well in this area for the future but for the meantime without a full strength midfield we will still be relying on defensive pressure more than scoreboard pressure. More goals from Cripps and better accuracy will be a bonus and I think we will see an improvement in this area from Cripps in 2018.

The backline is clearly our major asset now with the inclusion of Jones should he continue his stellar 2017 form. Struggling to find spots for players like MaCreadie, Williamson, Byrne, Rowe, ASOS etc shows a good level of depth there. Of course, ASOS will get the nod should he be fit when we next play Sydney.

So scores against should continue to reduce, even without Docherty!

Another 10-15% improvement in the 1-3 year players in our forward line plus another preseason to build a bigger tank and frame should correlate to us averaging a few more goals a game in 2018 at least. That plus the inclusion of David Teague and continued work of Sav Rocca on our forwards and we will convert more opportunities that present to our forwards.

I know most people write us off simply on the loss of Gibbs and Docherty without factoring the abilities and potentials of players to improve. More synergy as Bolton has said and focussing more on our attack plus bigger tanks in developing stars should have us winning around 10 - 12 games in 2018. I would be disappointed if our win/loss ratio remained stagnant in 2018, I know we're capable of more, then 2019 here we come The Mighty Blues!

I’ve always felt the same too. It’s almost like he’s the complete opposite to bolts, one dull and one bright
One cautious one optimistic
Just an extremely boring guy

Somebody is preaching it. Whoever it is, good on them?

Jabba stands for Plow.

Kekovich has long supported Jed.

And I am training to be the official advocate for Cunners.

I really like the players with character we have traded in. Having traded out so much experience in the last 3-4 years the club has done really well bringing in role models for our young list. The extroverted Daisy, cool headed Doc, aggressive ASOS and professional Wright all bring so much to the group. From what I’ve heard, Lobbe is as professional as they come and Shaw, Mullett and O’Shea are all supremely fit and great trainers. It all smells of surrounding our young guns with experienced, solid citizens b

Thomas was traded in pre-SOS. In hindsight, it was a bad trade.

Doc was also traded in pre-SOS. A good trade.

Agree with what you say about Wright and ASOS.

We will see what a Lobbe, Shaw, Mullett and O’Shea do.

Marchbank, Pickett, Kennedy and Lang look to be really really good trades.

exactly! it's no crime to be colourless but macca is deadset abusing the privilege........

Well his job title is Head of Football. What exactly is the job description? What could he do to liven up his act I wonder? How might he bedazzle and entertain us more? Crack a few jokes? Maybe burst into song occasionally? Perform some magic tricks? An inspiring theme song when he makes an appearance? Maybe laser light or pyrotechnic displays when he reads the injury list? Wear a special costume, with a cape?

Thoughts anyone? Macca might appreciate some ideas.
