She's tidy, I'll give you that. Shiteful song though.

Yeah she's not too shabby lookswise and the daughter of an All Black iirc so she's basically NZ royalty.

This was her other big single off that album, not a bad track and she brings her sex kitten game to another level.

She shits all over Lorde in both looks and music imo.

Sorry for calling you a f**khead btw, I was a bit emotional last night after St Kilda's drubbing from GWS so had to lash out at someone.

I actually think Margaret Urlich is shithouse too, I was just taking the piss when I said she was better than Lorde.

I'm a fan. Royals is mediocre but Ribs would be in my top tracks for 2013. Quality tune.

cant comment on her music as i listened to her album only once and nothing stood out for me to want to listen to it again...

however nothing annoys me more then when successful artists start the whole against mainstream music kind of whinging.

wouldn't be suprised if 3 albums down the track she has blonde hair and cleans up her appearance.

When did she say she doesn't like mainstream music? Was it during an interview? Was she specifically asked a question along those lines? If so, it seems like a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-don't-situation. She's either just another mainstream musician or she claim's she isn't and she's now arrogant and pretentious…

Music "fans" are impossible to please.

Plenty of people criticise "mainstream" music. And rightly so.

Lorde has some quite unique talent, and at least is interesting. I'm so tired of the skank shit being served up by every other female "artist".

has the voice of a million other oh-so-quirky acoustic folk females, but it's the big beats that earn her the plays.
And the composition of her tunes isn't typically whiny, but a bit more interesting.

I like her, can take it or leave it really, but she'll be interesting to watch as she gets older.

A fan of the album, decent singer with a good song writing ability. Saw her at laneway and was underwhelmed, almost go as far as to say that the first half of her set was a bit of a bore with minimal crowd interaction, a lot of pre recorded stuff and i very much disliked the support she had on stage (surely a 17 year old has a couple of friends who could do the job rather than 40 year old strange looking men who just stood there looking awkward in lorde esque atire). Got a bit more lively toward the end, but definitely not the best act i've seen lately.

So when does the Lana Del Rey-esque hipster backlash happen?
i was on the del rey train before born to die was her single, alright singer, whoever wrote the music with her vocals in mind is the real talent however

It's a shame how everyone jumped off her bandwagon after the initial push, because she's put out some great songs since then. Really don't understand how this wasn't a massive hit:

Sure, the message is cliched as hell, but it's still a quality song IMO, and I wouldn't really even class myself as a fan of that kind of stuff.

Yeah her live sets are really odd. I haven't actually seen her play in the flesh, only heard her Laneway set on the J's and then later when she did Like A Version.... there was a lot of pre-recorded stuff. Nearly every chorus was just the studio version with her adlibbing over the top. She's a talented singer, for sure, and Pure Heroine was in my top 10 albums of 2013. But I would like to see no pre-recorded vocals at her live sets.

Do not want.

Lorde reminds me of those rock tshirts of bands like Ramones, Nirvana, Motörhead etc that are sold at Jays Jays or Target, and come pre-faded and aged as though you bought it 20 years ago. Usually purchased by 15 year old girls who listen to OneErection, to wear on days they're going for the alternativerockbabe2014 look.

I've only heard that one song, but it's insincere as ****. If you're going to diss the mainstream, try not doing it when you're signed to a multimillion dollar record contract to a multinational record company who snapped you up when you were still shitting your diapers and moulded you into a product - packaged and ready to be sold.

At least Miley Cyrus is sincere. She's a whore and will suck dick if it means selling more records - just like everyone else - but she ain't hiding shit. She'll get that tongue out, and shove her arseh*le in your face ... It's what the people who listen to that shit want - they crave it. She's the only honest one in the industry.

Please stop, your killing me with laughter!

quite refreshing to seeing a 17 year old whos not twerking and doing outlandish shit but some meaningful beats.

very talented girl. not a huge fan of her genre but royals is pretty good.

Crap. Utter crap.

Someone said the same thing to me today. I'm not sure of the reason behind people's vitriol apart from the fact that she's a little bit different? If you're gonna direct hatred because you've heard "Royals" too many times... then you're probably listening to the wrong radio stations.

I'm going to direct hatred because I feel that her music gets put out there as popular and different not because it is, but because so much else in mainstream music is utter shit. I find her music to be monotonous, lacking in emotion, and all around unenjoyable. She's "different" to all those folks who have spent the last ten years listening to pop and not trying to find something different.

She's the music equivalent of a new sandwich at McDonald's. It's still processed crap from the same source, just with different toppings.
