One of the least talented members of Odd Future too.

I know it's not uncommon for hip hop artists to be completely vacuous and misogynistic but Tyler really does take it to a new level.
The fact that I don't know who he is, or who Odd Future are, pleases me IMMENSELY.

I think she needs to acknowledge a few things, that she's not a normal teenager anymore and that she has money and a cool life and enviable things to do every day. She still lives in this false vacuum of normality when she isn't.

And she needs to cop that she doesn't write any of the music – something glossed over. She's basically a pampered, upper middle class girl who was lucky enough to have artistic parents who could afford a private school. Not only that, but she's a product Of The Man. While there's nothing wrong with pop music, she is a part of the machine – she was signed at age 13, her image carefully cultivated, lessons and editing and everything paid for and encouraged by. Give me the public schooled, children of immigrants of Vampire Weekend or the working class lads of Arctic Monkeys who worked as tilers and did it all themselves. Not that authenticity is integral to music but it's endearing in a success story.

Musically she can string together some cool little turns of phrases. I like that one about "I'm kind of over getting told to put my hands up in the air, so there" and the way she tiles those words together. She's talented. She has a nice perspective on what it's like to think too much as a 17-year old. I like it when she sings about getting old. I like how she doesn't really resort to love songs a whole lot.

She is a bit of a pretentious arseh*le. She's pretty sure of herself and she gets offended really easily simply because she just yearns for a platform to talk about hate, gender, homophobia, feminism... she likes to set herself up for it and try and come out of things looking cooler.

At the same time, I think she's a cool person to have. If you were a 17 year old girl, she'd be a more endearing and relatable role model than whoever else. She doesn't perpetuate too much shit. The only thing she does discuss are things actually positive and thought-provoking, as embarrassing as her proposals on the topic might be. She's a good person for pop music even if she isn't a good person. She's someone who could mean a lot to plenty of people in a certain demographic; that kind of thing as a teenager is pretty priceless.

Her best songs are her introspective ones; Ribs, A World Alone, Team. In that order. "We've both got a million bad habits to kick, not sleeping is one: we're biting our nails / you're biting my lip / I'm biting my tongue." Verified poetry there.

Lucky Earl got over it and just remains one of the best young rappers in the game now.

If you think Tyler is one of the least talented in OF then you're an idiot.

He's mid-range. Frank Ocean and Earl Sweatshirt have him covered comfortably.

The bloke's pretty much living off his 'omg out there' rep and his blunt, blatantly misogynistic rhymes, which are very hit and miss IMO.

Also plz stop posting lame hip-hop snapshots. You aren't doing yourself or the community any favours by perpetuating the 'dumb, socially perverse' stereotypes inhabited by morons like Tyler.

Earl is a better lyricist but Tyler is a better rapper.

I don't give a **** if people don't like hip hop. If they think I'm "perpetuating the 'dumb, socially perverse' stereotypes inhabited by morons like Tyler" then they're a ****ing idiot.

Eminem rapped about raping his own mum, but nah he is GOAT.

Please try and know what you're talking about before you make an argument about it.

So you prefer the way things sound to their implicit meaning and any underlying poetic inclinations. Interesting. I'd imagine you'd be a pretty big ASAP Rocky fan.

I do like hip hop - I'm just not a particularly big fan of Tyler and I find his contemporaries much more interesting. FWIW my favourite hip hop artists at the moment would be Big K.R.I.T, Kendrick Lamar and Raekwon. They're all socially conscious, clever with their lyrics and aren't reliant on their over-the-top personalities and controversial rhymes. OOT would be A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr and Nas.

Eminem hasn't been relevant in ten years old sport. The Marshall Mathers LP was decent and he puts out a few good jamz with each new LP but he's hardly made anything noteworthy in recent times. He's another I've just never had much affection for due to the overtly misogynistic, homophobic lyrical content, which has always put me off.

Yeah I love A$AP because he's an amazing talented rapper and I've seen him live so come @ me.

Eminem hasn't been relevant for 10yrs? Are you high? He's the most known rapper of all-time.

What about Tupac and Biggie, do you like them?

He's not very talented at all as a rapper. He's got decent beats though.

I mean in an artistic sense he hasn't been relevant - The quality of his music has been deteriorating for a decade.

Can't really comment on Tupac; I haven't heard enough. I like Biggie but again, I haven't really heard much of his music, outside of Ready To Die.

Do you like Biggies lyrics?

Ribs
A World Alone
Team
The Love Club
Still Sane

Probably the coolest thing Lorde ever did was talk about that photoshop. I could imagine how many teenage girls felt endeared about that. Just a nice thing to do; to make a lot of people feel alright about themselves. That's cool.

Ribs and bravado ended up probably being my two favourite songs from pure heroine. I like all the songs though. 10/10

NEW ALBUM THOUGH!

Melodrama is pretty good, it's different which is good, but not as good as PH imo.

I know I shouldn't make comparisons and the album might slowly grow on me a bit more, but with PH I listened to it and almost every song grabbed me by the throat so I was instantly hooked.

5. No Better

How do you get this song? I've only heard it twice and that's because of youtube

I have the extended version and it's not even on that

New album is really good, she's building nicely. In some ways she needs to be a lot more original but when she does average pop she absolutely kills it (Supercut for example). Her way of using language is pretty interesting too - she uses just the right amount of words to tell you exactly of her specific state so you have enough to know of her own unique take, but it's relatable. The Louvre is another one of my favourites from the new one.

She's still half annoying and still half cool in her interviews though. Some of the points she makes aren't that profound but they're just cool to hear from someone else. Her love of what partying represents hits me too... it's not just about getting pissed, there's something else about the camaraderie and times that makes it interesting. Yeah.

Royals is the only song of hers I've knowingly heard. It annoyed me in the way hearing the same song over and over at shops/fast food chains gets annoying.

I get the impression her gimmick is she's "normal" because she doesn't look like an 8 or 9 and she's from New Zealand which to Americans might seem like Kansas on Mars.

Being on the Universal payroll since she was 13 her entire "phenomenon" has obviously been stage managed.
