Thoughts on the Melvin 'Almost' Ingram 4yr/$66M (42 mill guaranteed) contract?

Good deal. A smoky candidate to lead the league in sacks this year.

With bosa likely getting double teams all day I could see ingram as a quality number two pass rusher and you need plenty in the afc west.

Pretty sure the chargers have plenty of cap room

Agree with the potential to be the sack leader this season. Though, Joey Bosa might even be his biggest competition. 10.5 sacks in 12 games as a rookie is quite impressive.

But, as always with Melvin Ingram it comes down to health. The last 2 seasons he's been relatively healthy so the contract $/length is worth the risk. Bosa/Ingram combo has potential to be the best in the league imo.

Having Hayward and Jason Verrett (as always with Chargers players, healthy) flying around behind them and Mebane in the middle. The defence is something to look forward to this season under new coach Gus. It's been a while to say this as a Chargers fan.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Chargers MLB Denzel Perryman (ankle) will miss the first four games of the season and may require surgery.

A strong run defender, Perryman will miss games against the Broncos, Dolphins, Chiefs, and Eagles, if this report proves true. And it sounds like Perryman could be sidelined even longer. The Chargers and Ravens continue to lose players at an alarming rate. Korey Toomer is Perryman's backup.

Yep, Wouldnt expect him back until mid season. Great chance to see what Toomer can do, has potential.

Geez, with all the heartbreaking losses the last TWO years due to inaccurate kickers, they're dancing with the devil here.....

----------

Chargers signed K Roberto Aguayo to a reserve/future contract.

Aguayo will always be remembered for being the Bucs' failed second-round pick in 2016 as a massive reach. He flamed out quickly in Tampa Bay, lasting just one season before being cut at the end of last summer. Aguayo spent time with the Bears and Panthers this past season but didn't attempt a kick. The Chargers have big concerns at kicker and will give Aguayo a shot.

This kicker seems mentally done. Complete opposite of his college career. Don’t see why the chargers think they turn this around.

Yeah i wouldn't risk him against the Broncos, save him for the Steelers in week 13 if their is some improvement in him.
If he isn't got to get any healthier than bring him in next week.
Yeah last thing you want now is a setback given it was a major injury that cost him most of the season, plus the Donkey's are easy beats.

Massive Chargers fan, lived in SD for a year and a bit.
Been following the chargers since I first saw them in 83. Lived in San Diego 83 & 86. Dan Fouts was the man.
Good to see someone else follows them. Love watching Rivers play calling. The most vocal QB going. Been a lot heartaches over the years but this team are showing great signs. They are slow starters but always finish strong. Always thought we were in the game against the Steelers.

Hey, L.A., it’s time to embrace the Chargers

They can barely fill the 30,000-seat StubHub Center. When they do, it’s with the help of fans of the opposing team.

And that could soon be changing.

As the Rams soaked up the attention and the headlines and the praise, the Chargers quietly have gone about their business, racking up wins and, in the 2018 Thursday night finale, authoring a stunning comeback capped by a gutsy (but smart) decision to go for the win, and getting it.

And here are the L.A. Chargers, now two wins and a very plausible Chiefs loss at Seattle in prime time away from nailing down the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

If they get it, they don’t really need it. The Chargers boosted their record away from L.A. to 6-0 on the year, making the team without a home-field advantage perhaps the most likely to go on the road and win in the playoffs. Even though they may not have to.

The push to a potential division crown and top seed in the playoffs should wake up anyone/everyone who had overlooked the team that had become second fiddle in the City of Angels. The Rams got there a year early. The Rams hosted a playoff game to cap the 2017 season. The Rams kept acquiring big-name players in the offseason. The Rams, as the 2018 campaign unfolded, became the darlings of the league.

But the Chargers continued to push, quietly, steadily, inevitably. They still have plenty of work to do (and they need help from the Seahawks or the Raiders), but they are now in a spot where no one would have expected them to be, not in a season that has been dominated by the Rams, Chiefs, Saints, Patriots, Steelers (until recently), and the Cowboys (recently).

So get your Philip Rivers or Melvin Gordonor Mike Williams or Melvin Ingram or Joey Bosa or any other player’s jersey and get ready for a team that hasn’t done much in the last decade to possibly do something memorable, something historic. The Chargers have earned their spot among the league’s elite, and it’s time for their new hometown to respond accordingly — along with the rest of the country.
