wat

Imagine you were driving a 2 tonne death machine and you smashed into that car. I think there is definitely more responsibility required when you are driving a car. If it's just yiu, walking, weaving through traffic, the only person who is going to be harmed from this is you (physically harmed). Driving a car however, you could kill multiple people very very easily.

Cyclists who believe they don't have to follow the road rules have this exact same thought process.

It's a selfish and wrong mentality to have.

WTF?

I never said it's okay for pedestrians or cyclists to run out onto the road without looking, or not to follow the road rules FFS.

I'm saying maybe if you pull out of the vic park shopping centre without looking, or don't obey the road rules, in a car, you would probably (more like ****ing definitely) cause a lot more damage than if you were a pedestrian or cyclist. So you should have a heightened duty of care when you're driving a car, because it's so much easier to cause death and harm.

I'm not saying that means it's okay for pedestrians and cyclists to act like total ****sticks and not care about road rules!

Nicky, were you not the same poster who made a topic about getting fined for jaywalking ;)
I agree, doesn't mean I will take that advice.
IMO, doing 10 km/h over the speed limit on a straight country road in daylight/dry conditions is unlikely to cause an accident, but that's another discussion.
Yes i did run a stop sign, however, i didn't endanger anyone's life. I slowed down to around 10-15 km/h but didn't come to complete stop. I treated the intersection much like i would a give way.

Hypocritical post of the year. (Referring to nickys post)

mate... take the suspension... ive lost my licence a few times... sucks for the first month but like anything you get used to it...
In SA its impossible to get your licence back for work for most offences.
take the hit and change the way you drive. if you keep getting caught speeding buy a car with cruise control.
look on the positive side... no licence you dont have to be designated driver. you can be blind drunk for six months

Where's nicky when you need her?

Move to Perth. We have this pathetic system where you can drive like a Syd then go and give the court some bullshit sob story about how unfair it all is and they give you an "extraordinary" licence to make sure your punishment for being a ******** on the road doesn't actually inconvenience you in any way.

You can't get an extraordinary licence in WA for excess demerit point offences.
Pissy driving, reckless driving etc all good to go:thumbsu:

Good Behaviour is the biggest load of shit ever. If you lose your licence you should god damn lose your licence.

my housemate recently lost her license for going 30 km/h over the limit (110 in an 80... or so she says..)

she was real upset when it happened as it was a massive problem and she cried and rah rah and i remember thinking 'you were 30 kms over the limit.. what the f*ck were you doing' and had limited sympathy for her...

just two days ago she gets in her car to go drive somewhere... I asked her ''what the hell are you doing??'' -- ''oh my suspension is over, only lost it for a month..."

firstly, i didn't think you could only lose a license for only a month.. secondly, why was she so god damn upset in the first place if it was only for a month..

it kinda pissed me off, and i know i've mentioned it on another thread, but her fine was only $150 odd more than my bicycle fine ($500 compared to $350) -
I wish i could have lost my license for just a month instead of paying a ridiculous fine for riding a bike...

/rant

I think when you've got 12 demerit points to work with you're given a pretty fair deal as it is.
Copping the first sanction however pissy should probably be a wake up call.

If I were you I'd take advantage of having to take public transport/get lifts. You can drink more often :thumbsu: :p

Got my meeting with the lawyer tonight, will report back on result.
As for the posts saying i should take the punishment and get lifts/take public transport.
It is extremely difficult for me to take public transport to and from work. I live around 40 kms from work, so taking my bicycle wouldn't be a realistic option either.
Financially it would be bad as i have a salary sacrifice car, that i wouldn't be able to utilise for 6 months.
I understand the whole do the crime do the time thinking, and personally I'd say the same thing if i was on the other side of the ledger.
But once your'e facing a license suspension, and are so reliant of car transport, you will then understand

So you have a work provided car that you use to break the law?

I think you're looking for sympathy in the wrong place.

You're in a bad position, there's no doubting that. You need to get a taxi every day and that is the cost of your actions.

Get over yourself JB.

Too much shit "parenting" on this site.

Where's your empathy? Sure he's done the wrong thing and is being taught a lesson but the punishment is affecting him more so than the average joe who doesn't rely on their car for work.

I actually pay for the car, not free. Also, it's not like i'm using the vehicle to do drive by shootings or anything.
I'm not looking for sympathy at all, my opening post was asking if anyone had been in the same situation and had managed to escape suspension.
Taking a taxi would be my last resort

Then he should have been more careful than the average joe.

Good luck with the lawyer OP, I hope you get off with a lighter punishment and use this experience to stop driving like a goose.

how old are you? just for interests sake
26
