Pathetic is what I have to say.
The pattern is the same every single time.
Try early in the first quarter, things don't go their way and they give up for that quarter.
Come the next quarter and they generally do a bit better, although the margin is extended.
The margin then gets absolutely blown into pieces in the third quarter (or second quarter in yesterdays case) and they stop trying completely.
Then for the first 5 minutes in the last quarter, they try to stage the biggest comeback and when things don't go their way, they completely stop playing and call it a day. The margin at the end of the game is absolutely unacceptable. You see poor ol Jobe trying his heart out and getting gang tackled from every side, doing things to lift the rest of the team up and there is no response from the players.
I will never forget a scene in the last quarter against St Kilda this year where Jobe was surrounded by about 4-5 players and he looked around for help and there was nothing. Players with their hands on their hips. Completely unacceptable.
We have not won one quarter in the games that we have been thrashed. That shows a lack of effort, especially with margins like 96 and 94. In my book, 67 point loss itself is unacceptable, but we have passed that stage. These players are mentally weak and couldn't give a stuff about the results it seems.
The question is, is this acceptable? Is this what we pay to watch? 20 minutes of effort throughout the whole game?
My answer is no, but this is where we are at the moment. Injuries are no excuse for a lack of effort. The players chosen must put in their all at all times.
Sydney is probably the best club in the league and have much of my respect (Even though I am not a big fan of them). We need that sort of culture at Essendon and this needs to be drilled in during the off-season.
