I feel that Essendon's Friday night loss to the dogs will probably do them more good than harm. I know it sounds funny but I reckon that this is exactly what they needed to get back on track. They were REALLY AWESOME at the start of the season but recently they seem to have gone off the boil a little bit (but even then they are so good that they won by 30+ points anyway!!!).

Geeze Barnes is a thug! Any respect I hd for Barnes went out the window after he caned Johnson.

Also WELL DONE Liberatore. I thought he was AWESOME. He did a lot of hard work that and was a definite match winner. Those tackles on Scotty Lucas (one resulting in a goal for the WB) were some of the best I've seen.

All and all I hoped that Essendon would win because it would place Brisbane higher up the ladder than Western Bulldogs if the dogs had lost.

At the end of the year i hope that Brisbane win the Premiership but if they don't I hope that Essendon will becuase they deserved to win last year and they deserve to win this year.

How can a loss be good. Surely every side wants to win each week, and I am sure that the Essendon side are professional enough to not get too carried away with their success to this point. No side wants to lose, so it is silly to say it will do them good. It has now stopped them from creating an amazing unbeaten season. As for them deserving it last year, well they didn't even get to the Grand Final, so they certainly didn't deserve to win it !

Yeah but what would you rather lose:
a) A game during the Home and Away season.
b) The Grand Final

Obviously you'd rather lose a game during the home and away season. All I'm saying is that this loss will help refocus Essendon to win the premiership and I reckon they'd rather have that than winning some game during the H&A season.

Also the Bombers did deserve to win the Premiership last year as they were the better team last year. The only reson won was because they are really good at RIPPING one of the oppositions best Midfielders (namely Simon Black) EYEBALL's out so that they can't play a part in that game. They needed to do this even though the lions already had THREE of their best players (Voss, Scott, McRae) already out for the Preliminary Final.

You lost by 8 goals. A fairly significant loss I would think. Can't tell me that you team would rely on a kid like Simon Black to make that much difference.

No offense Shinboner or ArdenSt

But I reckon Brisbane would have come pretty close to beating you guys if they had access to their 1999 version powerhouse mid-field subsequently denied them by the tribunal and Mighty Mick.

The 8 goal margin was deceptive - even without a midfield you guys took until half way through the last qtr to shrug them off...

I remember thinking at the time (before we lost) that I was releived we had avoided Brisbane in the GF as I felt confident that after beating Carlton we'd, to quote Pagan "brain you" again in the GF.

On the other hand - coulda, shoulda, woulda - you can only beat you play and you guys played very admirably against a weakened Brisbane and a notuptoit Carlton and benefited from avoidign us - hey maybe that's karma for all those missed shots in the GF against Adelaide (hopefully we'll get some of that same Karma this year for our missed shots against the Baggers last year).

Cheers

No offense taken. you make some good points, and as you said, you can only beat who you play on the day.

Cheers

golions,

c) None of the above

You are assuming that Essendon had to do one of two things, either lose a home and away match or lose a final. That's a fallacy. The two are not mutually exclusive. They could do both or, much better for them, not lose a game at all. I'm sure the loss is not good for Essendon.

If Essendon had lost in any of the preceding rounds, there would have been someone saying the same thing you are now. Obviously they would have been wrong, as Essendon have had the focus to win 20 consecutive games.
