How does a 20yo accrue a 6-figure loan from people that could kill you? And what would he be gambling on? Horses?

Quite possibly and probably what he was doing.
I know of underground poker games that are running 5/10 and taking tick! Now I know that this isn't 6 figures but I'm sure their are bigger games out there also. Nevertheless not a good look.

I checked out his girlfriend's FB page, heaps of pics of both of them for the last 2-3 years. I wonder how much she knew. Poor girl.

The treasury casino poker room is likely the worst poker room run in the world. quirky rules (eg no straddle allowed), 4 tables total, no table service, poor customer service is just the start. thanks for linking the article. One of the home games in south brisbane got robbed earlier in the year too.

Is it still in the basement location too, behind the cafe, with no signage? No chance of casual walk-up traffic if even people who are looking for it (like I was) struggle to find it.

What a waste of police resources hiring a crane to remove a poker table! There was a full squat team sent out there for a bunch of people playing cards... lol

Huh just checked the rules for Vic/NSW/QLD home games out of curiosity:

VIC
Legal provided no rake is taken, though you can charge an entry fee to premises where poker is to be played

NSW
Legal provided no rake is taken, the dealer doesn't play and no one pays to play in the game or to enter premises where others are playing.

QLD
More complex than stated here but cash games are banned, tournaments appear to be ok provided it meets a few more criteria. Entry fees to enter the premises may be charged by a licensed venue.

Crazy to think a home poker game between mates is considered illegal in QLD.

Also strange that notorious 'nanny state' Victoria doesn't ban home games completely.

I might have some big news to announce soon. No I'm not pregnant.

Let's just say I'm hopeful we might get some people to the Aussie Millions that have not come for a while. Stay tuned.

I only play if I qualify for the $5k. The early one is hardly worth the money; the first time I played I came 4th out of about 180 and got the princely sum of $100.
I was surprised when they started rattling out the prizes. I expected it to be more

225 entrants to the 1st one. 2nd one about 190
