Impressive performance today by Ross Taylor and the New Zealand cricket team. 2-1 down in the 5-match ODI series, England batted first and made 335 with centuries to Bairstow and Root. At one stage they were 1-267 in the 38th over but they then lost 8-50 off the next 11.3 overs before Curran the #10 smacked Southee for 18 off the last 5 balls.

New Zealand's opening pair of Guptill and Munro both went for 0 and NZ were 2-3 after 4 overs. Ross Taylor was returning from injury (and suffered a further injury at the crease today), and only 3 times had a team won batting second after losing both openers for ducks, those times 192, 187 and 232 being successfully chased down. But NZ needed a lot more, 336 in fact.

The previous best score by a #4 in a winning chase was 139* by Virat Kohli. Ross Taylor obliterated that, scoring 181* and besting his previous high score of 131* in 2011 against Pakistan. Interesting side note: Taylor hit six 6s today but hadn't hit one for over 12 months! In that period he had scored 950 runs at 56 with 1 hundred, 8 50s, 83 4s but no 6s!

Trying to find a list for best winning starts to a tennis year. Federer should win the current tournament in Indian Wells to go 18-0 then has to be a strong favourite to win in Miami (assuming he plays), extending his streak to 24-0. Of course he should at least win the early rounds of whatever tournament he plays after that, probably Monte Carlo starting April 15.

42-0 McEnroe, 1984
41-0 Djokovic, 2011
...
16-0 Federer, 2006
16-0* Federer, 2018

NB: this is only for ATP events and matches from January 1. Some players winning streaks started in December and/or included Davis Cup. I'm only interested in ATP sanctioned matches.

Been a fan of LeBron James since he first entered the NBA. He has the most Playoff Points in history, the 5th most Total Points and 7th most Regular Season Points. Next season he should climb to 4th for most Regular Season Points, and then 3rd the season after that.

So most scribes are tipping the Golden State Warriors to sweep the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0. Lebron scored 51 today in an OT loss.

The USA leads the way with 51 for most Grand Slam men's titles. But after that it's a close affair.
51 - USA
25 - Sweden
24 - Spain
23 - Switzerland
20 - Australia

Sweden might drop from 4th to 2nd in the near future.

I'm watching The Post (2018) with Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks and wondering how many times multiple Academy Award winners have acted together.

That sounds like an idea for a new thread.

Thought I'd have a look at Cameron Smith's numbers

377 - NRL games
42 - State of Origin
56 - Internationals
---------------------
475

Not sure if his 4 games for the NRL All Stars should be counted.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_players_who_have_played_300_NRL_games

For comparison, the record for Australian Rules:
1st - 528 - Craig Bradley
2nd - 489 - Brent Harvey
3rd - 470 - Barry Round
4th - 448 - Peter Carey
5th - 466 - Michael Tuck

With the rate of migration, people swapping states and a baby boom, I'm not surprised at Australia's population growth.

People swapping states always one of the key factors behind population growth

Migration is 240,000 per year. While our population is booming, Japan's is expected to drop by 25% in the next 30 years. They have minimal migration and a very low birth rate. I heard a BBC podcast recently which stated that 40% of 18-34 year olds have never had sex!
