News Lower Delisted

My memory is vague, why did Lower get so few games (if any) last year? Guess we don't rate him.

People say consussions and injury, i also say because he is a terrible user of the football...

Do not need him, cannot be relied upon to not cough the ball up

but can be relied upon to kick a clutch, match winning goal. i never noticed his turnovers much but did notice he was a tough ball magnet who stood up in tackles, had great hands and great vision to go with them. i'm saddened by these recent events but stuff it, he'll get more game time if he looks elsewhere and we can rookie/PSD an unknown (hopefully tall) quantity.

Well, I hope Freo have invited someone else down to train with us in his spot. For him to be training with another club tells me that he must have been told he isn't a certainty to be picked up. That being the case, we need to be trialing someone else.

Starting to feel a bit pissed off with McPhee now.

Lower's brother and manager, Ed Lower, said the onballer wanted to give himself more options.
"He's been at Freo for two years so they know what type of player he is," Ed Lower told thewest.com.au
"When you've been de-listed, you've got to branch out a little bit and get your name out there and get under the watchful eye of another senior coach. That's what Nick wanted to do and that's what we thought was the best thing for him.

Makes sense for him to do that, wants to get on a main list somewhere and yet may still end up back here, probably as a rookie, if no one else picks him in the PSD or as a FA and we are true to our word.

It's a fine line he is treading though, if he has indeed been assured of us re-picking him. Now that Bondy is aware that the dogs might pick him, he will start looking at other options for a spot he didn't consider to be vacant. We might now look closer at players we previously wouldn't have considered.

I can understand Lower having a look around, but if he's been guaranteed a spot with us then he is playing with fire.

He was probably guaranteed that he wouldn't be delisted this year too. He knows well enough that football clubs change their minds and situations change. It's a business. He's doing the right thing and Bond and Co would respect that.

Don't want to intrude her guys, but given Lower is training with us I have a few question to ask you guys.

What was the main reasoning in him playing well in 11 but not in 12? Just a change of coach? And if you where in our position (young, rebuilding) would you take Lower or Roberton?

Thanks guys.

Not sure you can have Barlow and Lower in the same team at Subiaco. so it was a mix of injury/suspension/concussion and team balance that prevented him from playing when Mundy/Barlow/Fyfe/Deboer/Hill were available. Pearce also consolidated his place in the side in Lowers absence. We now have Morabito, Mellington and Michie to add to the list.
Seeing as you have taken Koby Stevens you would probably be better off with Roberton.

Interesting question but I think i would take Roberton.

Hahah yep.

The inner cynic in me is screaming "Why play current best 22 players when you can draft kids that might grow up to be best 22 players one day!" I'm aware of the hypocrisies in this thought pattern so don't bother pointing them out to me, btw.

Roberton considering Lower would be surplus to your needs. Do the dogs realy need a pure inside midfielder? That being said both are descent and worth looking at.

Intrude away. On topic relevant and sensible posts from anybody always welcome IMHO.

As for Lower, he had really bad luck last year. In short, injury kept him out when there was room in the 22 and, as said above, there simply wasn't enough room when he was fit enough to play being behind a number of other midfielders. He's always been a fringe 22 with us and would be even more so as some of our young brigade come through, but he was a great pick up at the time and he's going to be good value for the Dogs (or whoever) when they get him as a free-be this time round. Solid depth player.

On your last question, I'd take Roberton for sure. He's going to develop into a solid flanker who can slot into a few spots over the field. Especially with McPhee retiring, he would be pushing strongly to be in our back 6 for sure if he wanted to stay in Perth. Someone will get him and they too will get a nice player for little outlay. Certainly Ross rated him and would loved for him to stay.

I'm not upset by his departure in the slightest, he was like our poor man's Matt Priddis.

So we may lose two experienced players, for pick 36, why wasnt Lower on the table? McPhie situation handled poorly, Anthony paid out, goodbye Roberton, Grover, and we add one kpd.

Lower is a very good inside mid, average speed, very strong and gets off clean handballs even when tackled.
Reason he didnt get games is we were a very slow team and we had guys like Barlow and Clancee playing his role.
Also had some minor injuries that made it even harder to justify picking him.

If we didnt have Barlow, Clancee or DeBoer we would love to hang onto him.

If bulldogs need a workman inside mid to dish out to other mids Lower will be very valueable.
Can write him down as over 20 disposals per game guaranteed.

His kicking is average and speed is average so if you already have 2 or more similar players you wont need him.
We have a bunch of them, unfortunately due to injuries and lack of games last year its Lower who they decided to let go(possibly)
