Went from WTF rookie selection with us to one of my favourite players purely by the tenacity he showed on the field. If Lower was our poor mans Priddis, de Boer is a poor mans Nick Lower.
Pretty dumb thing to say.

The blokes onto his third club, not exactly ever going to be first picked.
Podsiadly goes alright

Feel free to expand, he displays the same hunger for the contest as de Boer yet can run out an entire game in the middle. If he had the uninterrupted preseason last year he'd have been one of our leading clearance winners for the year.Pretty dumb thing to say.
Surely people have to admit that this has been handled poorly. Why delist a player you want to keep and them have him leave for nothing when some sort of trade could've been organised? Leaving you down on a very solid depth player when the odds of drafting someone of the same calibre in the pre-season/rookie draft is very low.
If we end up keeping Crichton and losing Broughton and Lower I will be puzzled.
Big picture is our recruiting has been good this off-season but it could've been a lot better.

The answer lies in your own statement.
Did we really want to keep him, or were we ushering him out the door.
If that were the case then we would've heard at least some news of Lower being offered up for trade.
And what do you think we could have got for a 25 year old, slowish midfielder who wasn't in the best 25 at the club?

It doesn't matter. Anything is better than nothing. Look up some of the trades this year and in year gone by. Even spuds get something. Sydney got pick 47 for Trent Dennis-Lane. There's no harm in trying and a pick in the 60's-80's is better than pick 8 or whatever in the Pre-Season draft. It could be the difference between the player you want and the next best.
Best 22 nonsense doesn't mean a thing. It doesn't mean he won't be in the best 22 at another club.
So what do you think he was worth?

He's ok but really excess to our needs when he's waay behind guys like de Boer, also very doubtful that they would've even got anything in a trade.
Dogs have a pick before you guys. Pretty much the same as the Prismall situation.
Deboer has Lower matched for intensity, can take an overhead grab playing forward, absolutely has him covered for pace and plays within his limitations.
Deboer also doesn't get burnt going the other way, doesn't get shown up for a lack of leg speed and plays a more disciplined style of football.
Snap! Not to mention that there is always continued improvement and outstanding leadership qualities in De Boer.
I can certainly see him being our next captain. Lower was serviceable and worked hard but he is no De Boer.
