Podsiadly goes alright

Please, you're going to compare a mature age, Key position player who has had some of the best delivery a forward is ever likely to get to a dime a dozen, slow, good average player like Lower?

There's plenty more battlers out there folks.

Surely people have to admit that this has been handled poorly. Why delist a player you want to keep and them have him leave for nothing when some sort of trade could've been organised? Leaving you down on a very solid depth player when the odds of drafting someone of the same calibre in the pre-season/rookie draft is very low.

If we end up keeping Crichton and losing Broughton and Lower I will be puzzled.

Big picture is our recruiting has been good this off-season but it could've been a lot better.

The answer lies in your own statement.

Did we really want to keep him, or were we ushering him out the door.

Feel free to expand, he displays the same hunger for the contest as de Boer yet can run out an entire game in the middle. If he had the uninterrupted preseason last year he'd have been one of our leading clearance winners for the year.

Deboer has Lower matched for intensity, can take an overhead grab playing forward, absolutely has him covered for pace and plays within his limitations.

Deboer also doesn't get burnt going the other way, doesn't get shown up for a lack of leg speed and plays a more disciplined style of football.

If that were the case then we would've heard at least some news of Lower being offered up for trade.

And what do you think we could have got for a 25 year old, slowish midfielder who wasn't in the best 25 at the club?

It doesn't matter. Anything is better than nothing. Look up some of the trades this year and in year gone by. Even spuds get something. Sydney got pick 47 for Trent Dennis-Lane. There's no harm in trying and a pick in the 60's-80's is better than pick 8 or whatever in the Pre-Season draft. It could be the difference between the player you want and the next best.

Best 22 nonsense doesn't mean a thing. It doesn't mean he won't be in the best 22 at another club.

So what do you think he was worth?

In an uncompromised draft imo at least a pick in the 50's. But going on this years trade period probably between 60-80. But at the end of the day you get what you get and it's better than nothing. You want list managers that do the best with what they have.

I just reckon with the amount of speedy flankers we now have a hard contested ball machine feeding it out to them is important. And you never know when injuries can hit.

He's ok but really excess to our needs when he's waay behind guys like de Boer, also very doubtful that they would've even got anything in a trade.

A sad loss but nothing that can't be covered. Opens exciting opportunities in the Rookie Draft.

Worthwhile key position players that are ready to go or a talented project midfielder. Garlet worth a shot if the Dons give it a miss?

How disappointing, I wonder if the contract offer was too low. I really think that over the off season our list has gotten worse, and I no longer see us as one of the main contenders. I think we are back in a position where if we get a couple of injuries, we can't cover them. I think we could of traded him for a pick in the thirties, given the pick the Eagles gave for Wellingham, who obviously has played more games but I wouldn't say is a better player. Lower does have some good performances on the board, and at 25 is the perfect age to come into a side playing peak footy but also offer a bit of longevity.

For me, they stuffed up our trade period this year.

Dogs have a pick before you guys. Pretty much the same as the Prismall situation.

This, my first reaction on hearing Bond had said we would pick him up in December drafts was, he'll be gone before we have a selection.
I reckon Dogs have told him the same thing and said we are going to take you so get over here now and start training with us.

Snap! Not to mention that there is always continued improvement and outstanding leadership qualities in De Boer.

I can certainly see him being our next captain. Lower was serviceable and worked hard but he is no De Boer.

Funny you should say that.
With the return of Mora and picking up D Pearce , I had MDB as one of those players who will be under pressure to hold his spot. Even more so now with Crozier , Suban and Mello shaping up this year for forward spots.

Thanks for the replies guys. If he take him (hope we do) I think he'd play off a back flank, so hopefully his skills are up to par there.

Well I can often be accused of making rash emotion charged posts, this time I am just going to say what I'm feeling after havin time to digest. I'm heartbroken about this, nick lower is everything you would want in a club man, he is a bull at a gate, gives 100%, 100% of the time and is a clearance machine, I could get angry at bond again but really I'm just sad that we could let this guy go..... I really am.

I will say this to the bulldogs supporters if you play him as a half back you are idiots. He is a midfielder and a very tough competitor. If the ball is in between lower and mzungu/Pearce/d Pearce you will win it every time, play him as a mid and you will put Daniel cross into retirement.

All the best nick, you should never have been delisted by us and we will rue this decision, of that I have no doubt
