Loved how Lower went about it but considering that midfield was his only spot and Rosco P Coltrane is placing a hell of a lot of emphasis on disposal and pace ....the fact he is fringe means this likely a small stuff up at best.

Mundy, Barlow, De Boer, Crowley, Hill & Pearces are rated above him. The club obviously has hopes for Mora to be back, and they rate Neale & Sheridan ....that in itself is a whole lot of competition (especially as we took another mid first round).

I hear the inside mid debate but if Coltrane's plan is for speed and skill ...so be it.

Broughts is a bigger loss IMHO.

Rowan Jones may or may not have been loved amongst the Eagles inner sanctum, but he sure as heck wasn't loved by the fans.

Rowan Jones was our Schammer.

Having said that, Lower is Jones with 1000% more ability.

At the risk of being driven out of here with my best party dress torn and my '2008 Poster of the Year' Tiara bent .....

Rowan Jones and the role he played in blocking and totally sacrificing himself was vital in making that Eagles midfield as good as it was.

I rated him.

Now .....Where's that door?

Maybe, but I don't see many clubs lining up to throw players and picks at us for the likes of Lower and Roberton. Certainly St Kilda were never going to give us anything for Roberton.

I think that the Saints will be getting a bargain with Roberton as will the Dogs with Lower. The problem that Fremantle have is an excess of particular types of players an the late retirement of McPhee. We have neglected recruiting certain types of players and we are cutting players like Lower and doing the right thing by players like Roberton looking to go home for family reasons.

It would have been great to get draft picks for these players but we didn't. Now we must be very clever on the players hat we pick up in h Pre Season Draft an Rookie Draft. Fingers crossed Lower and Roberton get what they want an we get what we need!
 
If lower was that good a club would have sounded out freo at trade time - they didn't
If lower was that good we wouldn't have delisted him - we did
if lower was that good as a inside mid, flanker etc we would have played him - we didn't
if lower was that good and carrying an injury, concussion etc, we would have played him (see Pav) - we didn't

lower is a depth played as best, you cant polish a turd and expect it to sparkle!!!!

No one is lining up for Roberton. He may get picked up by the Saints but if they were more than mildly interested he would have gone to them as a fourth round pick. And I rate him slightly higher than Nick.

Players we have got for free after clubs requested/would have expected 2nd round draft picks:
Bradley
McPhee
Anthony
also Griffin came cheap

The days of teams paying a reasonable price for players in draft picks is gone, there are too many ways for clubs to get players without giving up much.

we cant expect to pick them players up for nothing and cry fowl when it happens back to us. at least its not a player thats valuable to the best 22. robbo, lower and even brougt's are not best 22 nothing lost.
 
Nick Lower is probably a good fit at Bulldogs but in saying that it indicates how far ahead our list is by comparison.
Lower was sitting in the band of 27 - 32 player pecking order at Freo last year and with the acquisitions of Freo recently
Nick has probably slipped deeper.
That is not his fault. Fremantle simply have better, much better players at their disposal now and the only way he was likely to get a run here was because of a massive injury toll.

With all due respect to Bullies, they aren't going to cause much trouble on the field this year while Fremantle are seriously shooting top four.
For too long Freo had a list where players like Nick Lower were regular best 22. Those days are now behind us.
Good luck to Nick Lower, he was a necessary reserve for us in 2011 and wasn't needed in 2012 and would have been surplus to our needs in 2013.

I said in an earlier post that I didn't think Nick would last to our pick in the PSD after Bondy alluded to picking him back up.
I don't think he's a monty for the Bulldogs either as I reckon Port may move with an earlier pick assuming they have a pick in the PSD.
 
Roberton may end up on the rookie list because St Kilda are believed to be looking at Cockie with their PSD pick. Port may choose between Lower and Prismall. Essendon will probably take either Steinberg, Fields or Garlett.

I can understand some comments on his skills, but we are asking alot of our Kids to stand up for the whole season.
Losing players for nothing always hurts, and this situation seemed to be handled badly, similar to Luke Ball at Saints.
To me this is a gamble on Potential, injuries, with Luck we could emulate the bombers of 93, or go back to Freo 2011.

Lower was cleaned up BY Daisy. Three week ban for Dale Thomas. Nick got a ban then too and unfortunately, I feel like that may have been the reason he started a few steps behind the rest of the pack.

No, lower cleaned up daisy in retaliation for daisy sniping one if our players but I can't remember whom. He pretty much gave back what was dished out. We used to bitch about players not looking out for each other but lower and McPhee were ones who did.

You're right! It was Garrick Ibbotson who was cleaned up by Thomas.

If I remember correctly, which is doubtful, Thomas left the ground to hit Ibbo and crunched him. Lower put the hip into Thomas while he was going for the ball and ironed him out.

Lower - 2nd in the Margery medal, after 1 season in the SANFL, no less.

I see what you're saying but given a reasonable crack at it, he could yet establish himself as an inside mid force at AFL level.

Yep, that's it. it was worth lower's 3 weeks at the time, but in the context of his following season, it probably lead to his eventual delisting.
