If lower was that good a club would have sounded out freo at trade time - they didn't
If lower was that good we wouldn't have delisted him - we did
if lower was that good as a inside mid, flanker etc we would have played him - we didn't
if lower was that good and carrying an injury, concussion etc, we would have played him (see Pav) - we didn't

lower is a depth played as best, you cant polish a turd and expect it to sparkle!!!!
Try Turdo and a soft cloth and polish in an eliptical motion

Hopefully it's only as a RD pick if we are.
I would prefer a developing KPF on the rookie list and immediate support/ cover for Pav on the main list. I'm not sure if they will go down that track. They seem inordinately confident in the abilities of Clarke and Keplar as forward options.

Why would the Bulldogs want yet another inside midfielder who is kind of slow and without top notch foot skills? It makes no sense.

They've been a fairly outside team in the recent past, I've got no clue how their list is, but you would think they'd have room for decent player who has a physical string to his bow.

Players like Lower win the close games, brutally hard at the ball, player, wasnt he the one who cleaned up Daisy thomas?
I can understand some comments on his skills, but we are asking alot of our Kids to stand up for the whole season.
Losing players for nothing always hurts, and this situation seemed to be handled badly, similar to Luke Ball at Saints.
To me this is a gamble on Potential, injuries, with Luck we could emulate the bombers of 93, or go back to Freo 2011.

Why does this seem to be handled badly ?
We may have tried to trade him with no takers for that type of player. We simply don't know that Bond didn't try.

FCS we now have the best list we have ever had yet people suggest everything is being handled badly.
IMO Bond and Lloyd are going beautifully.

And he wouldn't have got a game.
that's the rub, i think. regardless of all the machinations of who went where for what, it remains that lower sees that he may have better opportunities elsewhere. good on him for being master of his fate. i'm not into the bloodless dismissal of someone who contributed greatly to our culture at a time when we needed it. i hope he finds a role with the dogs, if that eventuates, and i hope he stars in it.

Goodbye:

Lower

Broughton
Roberton

Quite the load of fat to trim. Welcome.... Pearce and Simpson? Something seems seriously wrong here...

Pearce, Simpson, Smith, Duffy and whatever else we pick up in the PSDx2. I think it is your adding up that is seriously wrong here.:)

I just read an article that Roberton has agreed terms to move to the Saints during the free agency period. Does that mean that Lower will effectively do that with the Bulldogs before the PSD?

That would mean that the PSD effectively is only for players who delist themselves (Tippet) and state league top ups. Why not just take them at the back of the draft and hurry the whole show up. Training has started already...

Given the numbers around the ball Lyon likes to play, I think that it would of been great to have kept lower because it suits his style. Guys like Neale et al, won't be much of a factor in the team this year, and if they are its because we are suffering injuries in the middle and are probably already stuffed. Morabito didn't produce that much in his first year, although he seemed to have all the tools, and I would be surprised if he hasn't regressed after two years out of the game. If he can follow Barlow and Mundy's lead from last year, with very patchy early season form which starts to come together towards the end of the year, I for one will be very happy. No doubt Lower is a big loss, depth is crucial.

You never know though. Someone like Neale, Crozier, Sheridan or Sutcliffe etc could easily have a breakout year similar to Fyfe's second year.

Except Fyfe actually showed talent in his first year as a skinny rake (his sticky hands and leap). None of those you mentioned showed much. Not to say they won't "break out" next year but the preferred model is surely that they show talent initially.

If you look at the players that are being culled it's the slower guys. Obviously Ross thinks the future is "pace" and "congestion". Lets hope he makes it watchable ala the last 30% of 2012. He tried to inject pace into the Saints the whole time he was there, he seems to have more list freedom at Freo to do what he wants. The Steveseseses have given him the keys to Fremantle.

Rubbish, i just watched a 2010 game where we beat Sydney in Sydney. Fyfe was essentially non-existent. He turned the ball over and was fairly useless in congestion. He showed glimpses but nothing better than Neale showed. I was amazed watching that game that its the same player, the difference between 2010 and 2011 is astonishing. Can't wait to see what he can produce in 2013. We might see a big step up from Neale, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Crozier or even Forster (provided he's injury free). I actually believe Duffy will be the surprise packet, he's essentially the same age as the aforementioned and had a better season than most in the WAFL.

It could happen, but easily? Fyfe Cotchin and Dangerfield are the three best young mids in the competition, I don't think that we have anyone on our list who could have a breakout year like one of them.. its possible but very very unlikely..

That is doubtful.
