In all the ugly aftermath of the weekend, one little story you may like.

In the lead up to the grand final I told my 7 year old daughter that should Cats win I would get her a Geelong jumper - this time with the hoops. Last year in her first year of supporting the club we had bought her an away jumper as they had sold out of the home strip.

She was devastated when we lost - I thought perhaps more so because it meant she was now going to miss out on the jumper.

Later I asked her - that if she wanted, she could abandon the cats and become a Hawks supporter - in which case we would go down straight away to Southland and buy her a Hawks jumper.

In a great response, her face crumpled up as if she was going to cry and said she only wanted to barrack for the cats.

I gave her a big hug. It was the right answer.

Gold. My little 2 year old has been suitably brainwashed by myself. I even taught her to say go cats whenever she hears go hawks (which she yelled out proudly at the G/F parade on friday). She can sing most of the song as well.

Anyway, all day on sunday while we were in the car, she kept saying "cats song, daddy? Cats song?".

Whilst I couldn't bring myself to play it, it did make me feel a tad better...

While we are talking about our kids i thought I would share this one with you. During the season I thought I would take my 2 year old daughter up to Princess Park to watch the VFL side play Collingwood. It gave her an opportunity to play kick to kick at half time on the ground which she loved.

I have been telling her all season about Gary Ablett and Jimmy Bartel and that the captain is Tom Harley.

At half time we went into the huddle and I quietly whispered to her that the older man (coach) was telling the players what to do. Without hesitation she shouted "wheres Gabbly Ablett?!!" I didn't realise it but Bomber was standing a couple of feet in front of me and turned around and pissed himself laughing.

Was a little embarrassed.

My first daughter was a member from birth but our second daughter was supposed to follow in her mother's foot steps and go for the Swans.

Well... that was how it was supposed to happen....

About 4 months ago when my 2nd daughter was only 15 months old she walked in to the TV room where I was watching Geelong play and she screams out "Go Cats!". It was a total shock to me as I'd never taught her to do this. She must have copied her big sister (who's 3 and 1/2) who screams out "Go Cats!" whenever there's a game on - even if it's just the cricket! :p

Good on her there would be nothing worse than having a kid that is a bandwagoner from the age of 7.

You have taught her well

ahaha one of my best mates abandoned his team (demons) after a loss to collingwood one year as a kid. When he told his dad he had switched to the pies he didnt speak to him for a week - which I guess seemed like a while to a kid who must have been like 6-7 years old!

I am naming my first kid Wolfgang Ablett Rambo Dewar, and if not Wolfgang then Joel!

That's awesome Gav. Its true, once you're on, you're hooked....no matter how much it hurts to stay on board.

As much as I hated the club in the hours after the GF, I still knew I wouldn't be able to turn my back on them, that's why I hate them so much.

Worse than heroin. ;)

I reckon Geelong is one of the toughest teams to follow - they test your loyalty at every opportunity - I could never turn my back on them...bag them, be disappointed and angry, but not a deserter..I love the blue and white too much...

wen i was young gavin excell was one of my fav players with gaz, it was the blonde locks, lol:thumbsu:

I bought my nephew who is 2 a cats jumper that he loves and now whenever he sees me he yells 'Go Cats' and cheers, he has already been to two footy games and really enjoys it.

Funnily enough (because I never taught him) He also says 'Pies... yuck!!' first time I heard it I laughed so hard, I have no idea who he picked it up from!:D

I am hoping by the start of next year he will learn 'Boo Hawks':thumbsu:

my kids are cats fans. My son was born in 1985. he grew up thinking that if the full forward kicked less than 10 then he was having a bad day !

I think that he is going to grow up to be one tough kid with a name like that.

That aptly fits the description of 99% of modern daydawk fans. :p Prior to 1970 they had sweet f^ck all support, worse numbers probably than norf. Fast foward to 2008 and fan base is now making claims for the so-called "top 4". LMAO. :D :thumbsd:

when l was sitting out the front of the "G" last Saturday there were a lot of young cats fans around l thought this it great and the young girl standing near me at the game was around 12 she was yelling go catter's all game it great for the club to have young fans ......go cats
