Luck of the draw

Here's my point. No way are we a top 8 side, but because of the nature of the draw, we could fall in. I don;t think that's a good thing. When you do that you're in danger of becoming Richmond. Better to fall from grace and rise again.

Our draw really is pretty nice. Apart from the 2 games vs Essendon and a 3 week period from hell (Freo and Port away with Hawks jammed in the middle) we would be a chance to win every other game (doesn't mean we will of course).

Getting Carlton, Richmond and Melbourne twice is a huge bonus, all won't play finals so there's a chance for at least 4 wins right there.

It's why we won't suck as bad as some are saying, we will have bad weeks, usually against the better sides, but most weeks we will be competitive and stay within touching distance of the finals.

I hope you are right Matty but I am worried. We have so many inexperienced players and continue to lose our experienced guys to injury. As the season wears on it isn't going to get any easier. Whilst it is only round 3 the Saints game looms as a pivotal moment in the season.

Its hard to believe the rot is setting in so early. Someone down there has done something terrible. Our luck with injuries is laughable.

Falling into the 8 would help keep the media from baying for Bucks' blood.

I'm a little bit each way- Playing a final would help with the kids development but we drop down the draft order and may ignite false hope. As far as I see it the reality is we are likely to finish 10 to 14th.

slightly changing the discussion as I agree with the point of " luck of the draw " I think we should look at two conferences in the AFL.. similar to that in the NBA. so 9 teams in each conference. which you play teams in your conference twice. one home and one away game. then you play the other 9 teams once. this changes from a home game to away game every 2nd year. you then have top 5 in both conferences. I know this means the home and away season gets extended but if you scrap the NAB cup. then it works out pretty much the same.

Yes I agree with this . Or something similar. As it is the draw is a farce. It is very possible that a team can miss two places at least with the draw. It becomes crucial at 4/5 and then from 7 through to about 11. The press jump all over a side like Nth last year when they basically were gifted their last 6 games and then when they actually play a decent side they get blown away. A conference system puts everyone on a level playing field
