Cricket Captain 2018 just dropped yesterday, and after putting a couple hundred hours into CC16, I figured I'd grab the latest version.

The save I really wanted to start off with is Ireland, being one of two new Test teams for this game along with Afghanistan. I love the idea that I get to essentially start with a clean slate and oversee the entire history of the Irish test team.

I'll keep updates short, I just like to document my careers on websites for some reason.

11th May 2018 | Pakistan tour Ireland (1 Test) | Test Squad Selection

I don't know a lot about Irish cricket at the moment, so I chose the squad that the game generated for our one-off match against Pakistan. Being the very first Test Ireland have ever played, I was pleased to see some old faces finally getting their crack at the very top of the sport.

Ireland's XI to play Pakistan
Ed Joyce
Will Porterfield (c)
Paul Stirling
Andrew Balbirnie
Niall O'Brien (w)
Kevin O'Brien
Simranjit Singh
George Dockrell
Boyd Rankin
Barry McCarthy
Tim Murtagh
Sean Terry (12th man)
Peter Chase (13th man)

Ireland Short Format Wrap
I have no intention of controlling Ireland in the short forms of the game, but I will be glancing my eye over their results to see how they're tracking and if there's any standout players that could earn a spot in the Test side.

Twenty 20 Tri Tournament vs Scotland & Netherlands (4 matches, 12th June to 17th June 2018)
Ireland 9-178 defeat Netherlands 133 all out by 45 runs
Porterfield 76, Shannon 29, Kingma 2-26
Cooper 50, Dockrell 4-28, McBrine 2-20

Netherlands 9-170 defeated by Ireland 8-172 by 2 wickets
ten Doeschate 79, Rankin 4-26, Young 3-29
Balbirnie 45, Stirling 36, Malik 3-21

Ireland 6-201 defeat Scotland 130 all out by 71 runs
Stirling 92, Balbirnie 61, Davey 2-41
Waites 64*, Rankin 4-41, Young 3-19

Ireland 6-180 defeat Scotland 157 all out by 23 runs
Porterfield 46, Balbirnie 42, Whittingham 2-27
MacLeod 55, K.O'Brien 4-25, McBrine 4-39

Verdict: A strong clean sweep of the series. Standouts with the bat were Will Porterfield, Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling, all of which are already in the Test side, but with the ball it was off spinner Andy McBrine and fast bowler Craig Young that put their hands up for selection.

Twenty 20 Tour of India (2 matches, 27th June to 29th June 2018)
India 5-190 defeat Ireland 103 all out by 87 runs
Dhawan 62*, McBrine 2-33, Singh 1-15
Thompson 36, McBrine 20, Kumar 5-8

India 5-209 defeat Ireland 184 all out by 25 runs
Kohli 68, Rankin 2-30, Singh 1-26
Shannon 54, Stirling 48, Yadav 4-35

Verdict: A predictable 2-0 series loss to India. Not a lot of standouts, although James Shannon's half century in the second game piqued my interest.

Twenty20 Series hosting Afghanistan (3 matches, 20th August to 24th August 2018)
Ireland 9-148 defeated by Afghanistan 3-149 by 7 wickets
K.O'Brien 40*, Shannon 22, Khan 3-27
Stanikzai 40*, Young 1-21, Dockrell 1-28

Ireland 83 all out defeated by Afghanistan 1-87 by 9 wickets
Porterfield 22, Shannon 19, Khan 3-10
Shahidullah 38, Kane 1-10, McCarthy 0-13

Afghanistan 5-217 defeat Ireland 136 all out by 81 runs
Shahidullah 74, McCarthy 2-40, Kane 2-45
Portefield 49, Shannon 29, Ashraf 5-45

Verdict: A very disappointing series loss to Afghanistan, it's safe to say they wiped the floor with us. Porterfield and Shannon were the standout batsmen if you can even label them as such.

ODI Series hosting Afghanistan (3 matches, 27th August to 31st August 2018)
Afghanistan 7-295 defeat Ireland 109 all out by 186 runs
Shahzad 120, Young 3-51, McCarthy 2-45
Joyce 46, Balbirnie 15, Khan 3-16

Afghanistan 7-273 defeat Ireland 252 all out by 21 runs
Shahzad 102, Rankin 2-31, K.O'Brien 2-59
N.O'Brien 61, Stirling 51, Nabi 3-52

Afghanistan 9-246 defeat Ireland 167 all out by 79 runs
Stanikzai 59, McBrine 2-29, McCarthy 2-54
Porterfield 61, McBrine 34, Naib 4-26

Verdict: Yet another whitewash at the hands of Afghanistan. Some mixed results from the batsmen and bowlers and no real standouts for me.

Verdict: It was another One-Day wrap with shitty results but what we did see was the arrival of 18 year old Graham White as a potential superstar of Irish cricket. Scoring half centuries and centuries for fun at the age he is means he is an instant call-up to the Test team, very keen to see how he goes. Craig Young is looking like establishing himself as the country's top fast bowler over Barry McCarthy; I was also impressed with Paul Stirling and Simranjit Singh across the games.
