Fremantle Football Club is without a doubt the luckiest football club in the league.

Their performance today was insipid, uninspired, inept, etc, etc...we've all heard it all before when it comes to the dockers. They have NO RESPECT in Melbourne, where they are considered by many the softest team in the league. In ten years the best they could do is spend 15 mins in a finals series. They took 9 goes at beating the mob from down the road before they eventually did. They have underperformed with monotenous regularity. They make excuses. They make bad decisions, such as extending the underperforming coaches contract (and giving him a substantial pay rise!) They have a badly designed jumper and an even worse club song, and have the nickname of a wharf worker, hardly inspiring.

So why are they lucky?

They are lucky they dont live in Melbourne. Do you think a club like this would survive anywhere outside of the plastic bubble that is Perth? Do you think they could attract 33,000 members outside of WA's football duopoly? Do they perform with such courage/heart/skill that they could attract new supporters or members away from other clubs such as Essendon, Carlton or Collingwood?

Unfortunately the answer for all of these questions is a resounding NO.

Yes, they are very lucky...if they were a Melbourne based team they might go they way of Fitzroy and be merged out of the competition.

Supporters of their own club don't talk like that.

Just don't anyone else answer and the thread will soon disapear

But doesn't he make some valid points?
Realistically Freo's support increase is mainly due to the ground capacity at Subi. By February you couldn't buy two members seats together for WCE. And the lack of seats goes in Freo's favour. My bet is that if Subi had a 50,000 capacity that Freos membership would be way under 30,000.

It's always nice when someone makes positive comments after a result like yesterdays.

My point isn't yesterdays result, but rather 10 years worth of results. And that if they were based in Melbourne and had to compete for members against 10 other clubs, would they be any better off than handout clubs the Western Bulldogs, or Kangaroos

Unfortunately, I know of Eagles fans who have bought Dockers memberships because they can't get an Eagles one.
