It is very simple, his AA fullback selection as a top aged player in an average year draft wise made him a bit over rated. A lot of clubs must have seen it as he went to 66 in the draft. If he was a lock to be a good player it is doubtfull that everyone would have passed on him 4 times. Having seen all of his footy for Bendigo this year i can say his skills are ordinary, he didnt show any signs of being able to play a KP role. In fact the only time he looked reasonable (which wasnt often) was when he played halfback/wing.
As far as him being rookied i suspect he will nominate for both drafts and will be available for anyone to pick him up if they want him.

Thanks ant, we were surprised he was passed by the Lions so often, maybe it was for the better in the end. Reasoned logically intelligent feedback, thanks - what are you doing on bigfooty!?:p

You must have got me on a good day :D

In the end Lucy has got what many dream of - a year at a top class AFL club. I'm sure he won't be regretting it.

I think the early delisting is a very good sign. A changing of the tides, hopefully it is a sign that Essendon is demanding a player show his worth, rather then simply keeping him in the hope that he will get better....

For too long Essendon have kept players on the list in the hope that they will develop and improve over time, until after 4-5 years they finally realise that they aren't ever going to be any good. In these days of 38 players on a list, Essendon can't afford to have suspect players tying up a spot.

Lucy was taken at pick 66 in a weak draft, he will be replaced by a player taken at pick 47 in a strong draft...

and in regards to Bolton, if a player was only going to last one further year, you'd take Bolton over Lucy all the time....

Good PR for what?

I don't even recall a single article on Lucy.
Lucy was rated fairly highly this time last year with some people claiming that he'd be a first round draft pick. Drafting him let Essendon claim that they had the scoop of the draft as well as the "real number 1" draft pick Patrick Ryder.

From what i remember all the club ever said about Lucy was they hoped they got a steal.

If we are living in the world of hope, then what are we hoping for Bolton to achieve next year, are they still hoping after 9 yrs based on his No 4 selection they he can play. Cant justify Lucy's delisting at the moment, again the finger pointed to the recruiting team on another wasted pick, and the clubs list management wont change until changes are made at the top which i HOPE is one year away

So we drafted a player that was touted to go in the first round at 66, so we could create a few headlines.

Or we drafted a player at pick 66 because he was touted to go in the first round and he was the best available?

Stop trying to create something out of nothing, we drafted him because he was there.

In this situation I'm happy to trust the coaches who believe he isn't up to it.
From memory he was touted a top 30 or 40 prospect pre-draft??? I remember being happy that he slipped through to us.

i would of likes to see lucy play a game for essendon but i guess i wont now (unless he gets rookied). this could mean that sheedy is looking at drafting nathan brown

I think the blues supporter is bitter Essendon didnt rate Marc Murphy at no 1.

oh dear...:o

If I was an Essendon fan now, I would be fuming at the decision that they decided to delist this young KPP after one year!!!! They decide to sign on Bolton and Peverill but then they get rid of Lucy??!!! Doesn't make sense!!
Bolton would've been one of the first players I would've got rid of, along with Peverill and the others already culled from the list. I mean, Essendon's defence needs alot more help and assistance in it's current state at the moment. I mean, Fletcher isn't getting any younger is he?? I'd say he'll have between 1, maybe 2 years left.

Lucky I don't barrack for Essendon, sore pack of losers!!!! Although our defence isn't that bad either. Carlton and Essendon are dirty rotten rivals to each other so I had to say that!!!:D

I agree with that first paragraph but not about fletch having 1 maybe 2 years left id say he has 3-4 years left but our backline is weak and fragile and i think its a shame that u delist a person after one year after they have moved from foreign territory, he really didnt have time to adjust. However if he is commited enough as past players have been he could prove to the world what a terrible mistake we made, i hope he does anyway.

thoughts??

Lucy will go down in the books as the first EFC draftee to be delisted before his contract expires. I feel sorry for the guy, the only consolation being he still gets paid out. Dud oro and Sheedy have done it again. Keep them away from this draft, please.

You're not seriously saying Lucy was the wrong pick or that we had a bad draft last year are you?

Fair enough that you don't think Sheedy or Dodoro are the right men for the job, that's fine, but at least try and be fair.

Did Michael Davis have a two year deal?

Looks like he was the wrong pick- If Davis was drafted he would have picked up a 2 year deal.

I don't see how drafting the AA Full-back at pick 66 in a shallow draft is the wrong pick. It didn't work out, but you never expect every single one of your draft picks to make it.

We had three blokes from that draft debut last year and all show a bit. Three on the rookie list that are pretty exciting and Neagle who was bottom age.

We needed a tall back, we took the best available with our last pick. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I don't recall you (or anyone else for that matter) saying it was the wrong pick at the time. In fact, including myself, were pretty excited by the pick.

I'm just glad we got rid of him as soon as it was decided he wasn't going to make it, rather than hanging on ala Bullen/Hunt.

Drafted in 2000. Delisted after one year.
Picked up by Carlton.

Actually the few times I saw him play early on, I simply said no, even after hearing pre-season accolades. You have to wonder sometimes how poor our list management and assessment of the list has been. Lucky most EFC supporters are so forgiving, but Jackson is now on the record.

Interesting about Davis and Carlton. Did they save us some bucks by drafting him?

Definitely keep Dud oro and Sheedy away.

Sheedy yes, Dodoro's doing alright.

To some extent.

Lucky break, got paid twice, Essendon and Carlton.

They are a good pair.

To every extent. You made an assessment of Lucy after he had been drafted to the club and applied himself in a senior environment. You don't get that luxury on draft day.
