Ablett is a tackling tough player who creates great defensive pressure in the forward 50. His primary role in the swans team was to be a defensive forward and shut down opposition half back flanks. He is a massive kick (60m) but his disposal is questionable at times. He is a good mark but not a great kick for goal. Would suit a team like Collingwood or Essendon in my opinion. I don't think the swans will redraft him.

Dunno much about Ablett, what type of player is he. I know he is not a high-possession winner. Would he suit the pies if we missed out on Ball?
Yeah. I floated the idea of an Ablett trade to the Pies for a pick upgrade of some description a few times in a few places. I reckon he's best playing as a second tagger and hard man in the middle. Give him an opponent to shut down (one that's not too quick though), and he'll do a good job, and he'll also win a few clearances and pick up his 15 possessions pretty regularly.

He'll never be a worldbeater, but he would be a handy player to have in a team looking for a premiership and lacking his sort of player.

Not really...good character, good courage etc but MM likes players with a bit of versatility (OBree and Presti aside) and as good as Ablett is, he is limited to playing tagging roles.

Personally I hope Swannies redraft him. This might be the same wake-up call the Jude Bolton got a few years back.

I dont understand how Playfairs been in the system for so long to begin with:confused:.
He's a decent player when fit. Like Ablett, no world-beater, but quite a handy third tall, back or forward. It's just that lately his body seems to have given up on him, and he's not quite good enough to justify hanging on to him and clogging up the list if he's going to be constantly injured. Which means the rookie list is the perfect place for him! If he gets over his injuries, he can return to the side, but he doesn't take up a senior spot in the meantime. :)
