having watched nogy since he played at port melbourne i believe he is our most underated player.the work in does at the stoppages is just as good as kirky if not better and he was surely missed against the magpies in last years final.
for example last weekend against PA he had 6 first possessions at stoppages and 4 first effective clearences from stoppages, amazingly goodes had the same and kirk was 4 and5.
sean burgoyne had 7 and 6 for PA and brenden lade 6 and 5.
interested what other swans fans think, maybe when your at a game watch him a bit closer before you bag him

Another astute observation Bedford from your goodself and i agree whole heartedly with you however his disposal can be very untidy at times and what can highlight this is sometimes this ocurrs when under no pressure.Having said that i appreciate him for the type of player he is and what he brings to the side which is his fierce determination and hardness at the contest and with his ability to get his hands on the ball first at the stoppages and clear effectively should never be underestimated.Keep up your very knowledgable posting as i think most of the educated footy heads on this board are on the same page as you.I know i am.We all have our own opinions and are entitled to them especially when it comes to having a genuine passion for the Bloods but some of the uneducated tripe i have read recently in response to your views smacks of people that would like to think they know as much about the game as you do but sadly most of them are Johnny come latelys who feel inferior to you because of your long standing support and passion for this club which goes far back before most of them were born.Keep up the good work:thumbsu:

Agreed. He's alot more valuable to our stoppage and clearance work than most punters realise. Love that booming kick of his as well - if only his accuracy was on par.

Valid point - with his kicking range he should be a deadset weapon for us that could break floods and kick goals.

Probably is one part of his game that has sadly not improved much the last 3 years

I also see him as a big booming kick rather than some one who can hit a target with a low skimming pass over 40 to 45 metres.

Are these fair observations?

quite right HA in his early days in the vfl he wold often roost the footy more than 60m, but more often than not he would spray it.he was also capable of handpassing 30 m on either hand.
he would have come to hand quicker if he hadn't been held back by then port coach dave dunbar,i know for a fact this used to agitate eade and his match committee.it wasn't only ablett but monty and the rok as well, though he seemed to love schneider.
regardless of what a few people on here think this is one of a few reasons we now have our own ressies.

agreed
i'm a fan, but you're right about his kick
he's the bloke to deploy outside the 50m arc to beat any flood (davo if he's playing, also, but davo's more an obvious choice so ablett would get less defence)
but he was probly THE unsung hero of the win over geelong in the 05 semi-final, was sensational in the last 10 minutes

He looks like my sister's ex, only he had a beer belly and couldn't kick further than 25 metres. Thankfully she's upgraded since then!

Hmm.. thats nice to hear.

Anyways, back on Ablett. I absolutely love his booming kick, especially when he simply throws the ball to his boot and kicks it out of the congested huddle. Gives Goodes a chance to sprint merrily towards the ball and run with it. :p

Yep I agree with you guys, Ablett is one of those not-so-glamourous players who gets the job done each week (well...most weeks. Room for improvement, but still a great man to have on the team!)

Hi btw, I'm new here :p

Good thread. I've always been a big fan of NOG.

He and Benny always seem to be underrated.

I've never really bagged out any of our players much apart from Schneider. I think I'll just nominate someone at random and bag them out for the rest of the year.

I'm gonna go with Mattner I think.

The new guy is always a good choice - Chambers was a cracker; Playfair would also be worth a bash but he'd have to get a game. I look forward to your comments.
I found it hard to bag Chambers after a while. I actually started to laugh whenever he butchered the ball (thank god he only managed to touch it 2-3 times a month). I reckon Playfair could fit the Chambers mould if he plays his cards right. But yeah you're right, the new kids always make for the best targets.

Did you see the clown running around our backline like some handball happy, poor man's Malceski last week? Roos, get rid of this idiot.

i think the club at some point started a charity for geelong players about to be delisted
we had spriggsy before chambers (and there might've been one before them), and now big hank, although let's give playfair a chance to get healthy
if he were healthy now he'd be our back-up ruck, probly
