Judas. Simple as that. Betrayal from somebody as beloved by the club makes it only more wrong. If he wanted to leave, he could have chosen any club. He chose to go to a club that was in a Premiership window the same time as us. Luke was one of the brainiest footballers you'll ever meet, so he could not have been blind to that fact. He knew he was not only weakening our club in his leaving, he was strengthening our direct opposition for the Flag. And he did it with a solid middle finger waving in the air. So he was sheepish when he got his medal after beating us - that wasn't humility, it was just shame.

The players all knew it, too. I remember hearing a fan on here talk of how he asked to get a 2009 Saints playerbook signed by players in a 2010 pre-season event. When he got the book back, they'd graffitied Ball's picture with devil's horns and tons of dollar signs above his head. They had nothing but contempt for his betrayal.

Strength through loyalty. What he did was in no way at all loyal. It was the epitomy of disloyal, of betrayal. He became the epitomy of everything the St Kilda Football Club stands against.

All this stuff about Bally being un-loyal to the club, letting his team mates and supporters down - cracks me up. Because you go over the other thread and every second supporter wants to p1ss off Jack Steven at the drop of a hat. Double standards me think.

I love that there was a small bit of hope that a retirement thread about a player would stay as that, a reflection of his career in the good times, thanking him not degrading into arguments had 5 years ago.

Alas, here we are stuck in the fishbowl.

I of course blame Karmick, if only you had epic muscles as well then people would be swooning at your depature as well, damn you and your bloody gazillion dorra contract!

Not really, because we know that Jack is contracted. If he agreed to a trade then that's fine, if he refuses a trade then we keep him.... Totally different situation

Couldn't kick over a jam jar?

Didn't see him pre-2006?

He left us for damn good reason, the fact he didn't shove it in our face GF day 2010... Shows he was a bigger man

He was dumped by Ross and it was made clear to him, that he was on the outer... Don't make up history.

Btw
We were offered a trade.... Turned it down...

We were offered Wellingham when he was a spud.

You could ask the same thing to Dal & Milne, and they'd probably say that they wanted to prove their worth & continue to improve as players.... Luke just spooked it up & ****** off.... Very weak IMO

The problem for Ball was he was our second best inside mid behind Hayes and would have been our third best inside mid when Armitage overtook him, even if he had've worked his arse off he still would have struggled to get a game, at Collingwood he was their no.1 inside mid.

Dal Santo was our best outside mid and Milne was our best small forward so if they worked hard there was a place for them in our best 22, Ball didn't have that luxury.

It sucked that he ended up at Collingwood who was one of our main premiership rivals back then but it was a smart career move on his part which is hard to blame him for, the most annoying thing though was that we got nothing for him.

Can't recall too many people here wanting to piss Jack Steven off, he's still our best midfielder despite having had a disappointing year this year mainly due to injuries.

Completely different situation. We're not in a premiership window. Those windows don't come often, or stay long.

I'm surprised but the reaction in here to be honest. I was under the impression that he was pretty much told to go by Lyon, so you can hardly blame him for going to a different club.
I'm under the impression there is about 500 different impressions to be had as to what actually went on. Probably two people know what Really went on and I doubt they're talking at this point or for some time to come.
I suspect mad Sainters would like to think ball said noting and advised he wanted to go, collingwood people may like to think he said nothing and was advised to go or that he was second in line behind Lenny or some such........

And I suspect that the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is probably somewhere between the two.

So the club should only show loyalty when it suits
No, I'm saying that it's not such a breach of loyalty. Take Dal, for example, or heck, even BJ. Their leaving was mutually beneficial - we got picks during our rebuild, they got to play in finals teams again. Everybody's a winner. Trading is meant to be like that. We're happy, they're happy.

In contrast, Ball completely screwed us over, we gained NOTHING. In fact, as I said, he not only made us lose something, he gave our chief opponents a gain. It's as if we were 5 points down, and he'd marked it right in front of goal, 20m in front with a minute to play, ready to kick the sealer... only to turn around, run up to the other end of the field, handpass it to the opposition forward and say, "go ahead!" If that isn't betrayal, what is? Well, that's effectively what he did.

Like I said, no wonder he was sheepish when he'd won.

Yeah I don't really believe you're surprised. I saw all the Dale Thomas threads on your board :D
