Goddard had the same 20m sprint time (2.96 sec) as Daniel Wells in 2002, so wouldn't be taking too much notice of old draft camp results.

Ball ran a 2.85 in 2001 which is elite, but wouldn't go close nowadays.

Are we really expecting Ball to have a high possession game playing on a forward flank? When McQualter comes back I think we'll see him go back into the midfield and pick up around 20 touches a game. He's going to be crucial come finals.

But you have to ask why is he on the half forward flank to begin with. I believe it's because his work on the ball has been less than stellar for awhile now. Ross is trying to find a spot for him in the 22 but Bally is making it hard for him.

He's out of form and low on confidence, who knows what the answer is. Luke's a quality person and i'm sure he's as dissappointed as anyone.

I think ross threw him on a flank to get ballys outside game going, i reckon hes finding it hard to adjust:confused:

Career over with st kilda it seems. dropped again

ps im furious: played out of position then dropped. when was in the guts v hawks, he led the team.

You'd reckon that's it for him. The club is flying and I can't see him forcing his way back into the side again.

The club and Luke have spent the last 12 months saying he's 100% fit and completely over the problems of the past. The reality now is that he isn't as good as we hoped he might - very much because of the injuries of course. I'd trade him while he still has currency. We could use the salary cap space as he's one of our most highly paid players and he's running around in the VFL.

What would you guys want in a trade? Lions need 1 more expirenced midfielder to challenge for a premiership in the next few years and I think Luke Ball could be the one. Would a 3rd round pick get it over the line or would it be a 2nd round pick?

LOL 3RD ROUND PICK
theyd want first round AT LEAST

us swannies have a massive hole in our salary cap with 2m free and potentially 2.5 if kirk and goodes go on the veterans list.

the afl rules say that atleast 93% salary cap has to be used which means we need to use up another 1m, even without our cost allowance. brett kirk will hang up his boots next year so luke ball will come to us no question about it. we dont care wether he has the pace as long ass he can tackle and kick the ball.

we'll also be looking at armitage so maybe it will be pick 23 and a swap of 3rd rounders for both ball and armitage

No doubt you guys are looking to get even for the Schneider/Dempster deal (pick 26).

we had 1 player out of contract being jesse white and he has signed up to 350K upto 2012. st.kilda has more than 10 players out of contract. if you guys win the flag you'll have your salary cap smashed open.

armitage and ball might be too much but we wouldnt mind one of the clarkes instead of armitage. i think the needs match for our two clubs and i think the trade is very likely.

I have no doubt Sydney will be one of the more active clubs at trade week and will pull something of substance off. Hopefully you can't jag one of our guys for bargain basement, but if Geelong lets a former captain in King go for pick 90 anything is possible.

The results reflect the profile of an outstanding athlete as well as a potential AFL player who had achieved All-Australian honours at the National’s Under 18 Championships earlier that year averaging 23 possessions, 5 tackles and finishing runner up in the Larke Medal (Division One Best & Fairest).
In analysing his fitness results (Table - A ), his height (182.8 cm) and weight (72.46 kg) are ideal for an inside midfielder at 17 years of age. His percentile rankings for height and weight against the entire group are ideal for a player of his type (i.e. inside medium midfielder). Luke’s sum of skinfolds (30.8mm) indicates he’s not carrying any excess and is in perfect physical condition (99th percentile).
However it is Luke’s anaerobic power scores and percentile rankings which indicate the profile of a super powerful athlete and potential AFL player. All Luke’s vertical jump results, whether standing or running off either leg, are in the top 11th percentile ranking for the 2001 camp and when considered with combined percentile rankings (1999, 2000 & 2001 Draft Camp results– see Table B) he is in the top 5%.
Similarly, his 5m, 10m & 20m speed times put Luke in an elite group (top 3%) over the 3 years analysed.
Finally the shuttle test of endurance where he recorded a Level 14, Shuttle 2 result has Luke in the top 17% for the 2001 draft camp group (Table A) and the 11% over the 3 years analysed.

As a schoolboy at Xavier, Luke broke just about every record available, including I believe, the APS 400m record.

No doubt his athletic abilities have been cruelled by a succession of injuries and I think this has severely dented his confidence with the football. After 2004, I thought Luke was a shoo in to one day win a Brownlow.

I hope the Saints give him another season to try and get his body right because above everything else he has been a great ambassador for the Saints and a great clubman.

is bally now trade bait?

otha clubs will be snapping him up 4 sure.

I like Kerr or Salopek

Esp Kerr- like for like and Kerr would be awesome as the 3rd mid

But bally would struggle on Subi so it wont happen

i never knew a senior player/former captain dropped from the first 22 and emg's, especially during a premiership charge would be worth a first rounder.

even if our friend RL breaks us for the deal we can still give our pick 39 for josh kennedy from the hawks. prismall is a gun midfielder who went at pick 39 despite playing well almost all year, while bally has been in poor form and has been dropped.

despite what you think st.kilda management will be open to a 2nd or 3rd round pick considering he's out of contract at 600k and that they cant keep paying him that.

I think it's his kicking more than anything that has been the most disappointing thing about him for the last couple of years. He's still as courageous as always but I'd back Jones or Baker etc. to hit a target 40m away more than I would back Ball, and he is supposed to be one of our better mids. Don't even start me on his kicking for goal, I'd rather have Jayson Daniels lining up.
