I still can’t get over it and can’t believe some just blindly back the club and don’t even question process for decisions.

I can tell you there is people employed in senior roles at other clubs scratching their head when it was announced.

Came from nowhere.
the VFL program finds gun players ~ maybe Magden's a gun. VFL coach at a AFL aligned club has to work with the AFL coach.
Dureya and Bruest have playing pedigree and just in the club as development coaches.

development coaches coach in the VFL

New coach who has no ties to Richmond. unlike father son Morris & Batch.

injury has ****ed our success last few seasons we seem to be in wildcard round a bit. Morris to Batchelor. Batch had to deal with a team of giant KPPs. 50 rookie rucks...

Do you know who actually applied for the position?
Why would other "senior officials" be scratching their heads?Do they know Madgen?
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean the process wasn't followed through.

Luke Bruest was just on trade radio.

the build up to having him on was all about being at Richmond in this new role and we can't wait to chat to you.

reckon he was asked 2 questions about the role and 1 of them was about the process. 1 was about what he wants to do in the future.

nothing about who he is looking forward to working with out of the cubs etc.

not sure if my expectations were too high on what I was expecting to hear in that interview, but that is 5-7 minutes I'll never get back.

Not Luke's fault either, he was just answering what was being asked.

That is what you get when you listen to 'Trade Radio'; if you want in-depth/informative question you have come to the wrong place!

Every possible scenario showed that he was the best during the interviews. Experience doesn’t always come into play, and as I said, he deserves the chance.

He's just a forward coach fresh out of playing, I'm not sure why you wouldn't take him.
I am stoked we got him, it was more the broader philosophical question around star players being coaches.

Also, isnt it like only Bevo, Clarko and one other coach has won a flag as a coach but not a player since 1990?

Get him on the pod and ask him the right questions ;)

Sam Mitchell has potential to achieve real success. If he doesn’t count cos no gf’s/flags as a coach I guess it’d be dimma.
Dimma wasn't a 'superstar' player in the mold of those mentioned. He was tough and did his role. Very successfully but not a superstar.

Women’s program is a mess
Would have thought that the selection of a VFL coach was made by a different panel to a program headed up by Kate Sheahan... could be wrong though.

Women's program had been improving year on year until this year. Sheeran disharmony had a big impact it seems.

Yeah I wasn't expecting a lot tbh. Figured they would chat about his career mostly and what's next. Maybe a couple of more Richmond future questions but meh whatever.

See him as a development appointment rather than a results appointment considering where our list is at.

It's about the RFC don't waste time talking about it's future propects.

Not agreeing with the post but have to ask the question at large, when was the last successful coach who was also a star player?
Voss - maybe 1 or 2 good seasons but still a fail
Hird - only the most one eyed supporter could say he didnt fail spectacularly
Buckley - Maybe? Made a Granny but that was basically gifted to him through us having Gastro go through the club during prelim week

So who else would be considered a 'star' as a player and then go and be successful as a coach?
Ron Barrasi.

paul roos, alan joyce and dennis pagan are three others since 1990 who never won a flag as a player (in the vfl at least)
