The Giants have 'asked the question about Luke Bruest'.

2:50PM — GIANTS SHOW INTEREST IN ANOTHER HAWKS GUN

Despite failing in their bid to lure Chad Wingard across, GWS has shown interest in another Hawthorn veteran, with AFL Media reporting they’ve explored a move for Luke Breust.

Like with Wingard, the Giants would’ve been willing to send out their pick 13 for Breust; and like with Wingard, the forward hasn’t shown any interest in switching clubs-Fox Sports

Why if he doesn’t want to go? Hawthorn would have to seriously push him.
Because they want him badly.

It's not on Hawthorn to push him, it's on Giants to convince him.

Pick 13 for Breust and 24 is the offer apparantly, which on draft points is equivalent to pick 41 for Breust.

Realistically you would probably need pick 20 to pair with pick 24 to trade for pick 13.

And pick 20 is about right for Breust.

This draft is seen as being quite even between 5 - 20, which makes 13 close to the sweet spot where you are getting a top talent in a position you are actively trying to address, instead of simply taking what's left over from that top group.

Yes pick 13 sounds better but you get two players with 24 & 41.
Two players who are likely to be inferior. My issue is rating what a trade is worth by draft points.

As mentioned earlier by Prochard123 to trade 13 you would probably need to get 20 and 24 which is a more realistic version of what the trade is worth.

It also depends on what talent is available at what pick.
There may be a year when there is not a great difference between 13 and 20, but there is this year.
This years number one pick is worth more than other years as well.

Still ridiculous that in 2021 a player can stop a trade agreed between two teams. If Hawthorn wanted to do the dirty on Breust so be it.

I know players break contracts all the time, but it's much harder to force a player to break contract and be traded if they have no desire to leave. It's like any other employment contract, easy for an employee to break, hard for an employer to break (without cause).

Glad he's holding firm, absolutely love the guy.
